Best Time to Book a Flight to Seattle

The best time to visit Seattle depends on how you want to spend your time in the city.  A visit between May and September is ideal for outdoor activities and festivals, like the world-famous Bumbershoot festival over the long Labor Day weekend and the Sasquatch Festival over the long Memorial Day weekend. (The latter is a music festival, not a celebration of Bigfoot!)  On the other hand, October through April are better for activities that take place indoors, like shopping and visiting museums.  Seattle is famous for its year-round rainfall, although it tends to be a constant trickle rather than a series of torrential showers.  No matter when you plan to visit, it's essential that you pack a lightweight waterproof jacket and a small umbrella. 

Airports in Seattle

Most travelers arrive in Seattle on a flight landing at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.  Often referred to as Sea-Tac, this is the biggest airport in the Pacific Northwest and the home base for Alaska Airlines.  Sea-Tac Airport has a main terminal with four distinct concourse areas, as well as two smaller satellite terminals that are linked by a complimentary train system.  Sea-Tac has all of the amenities that travelers would need, including ATMs, a currency exchange, luggage carts and car rental companies.  A light rail line connects the airport to downtown Seattle and the University of Washington. 

Seattle also has two small airports serving exclusively float plane traffic: Seattle Lake Union and Kenmore Air Harbour.  Flights from nearby Pacific Northwest destinations (including Victoria and the San Juan Islands) land directly on the water at these airports.      

What to See and Do in Seattle

For most travelers, a hotel in downtown Seattle will provide convenient access to all of the city's attractions.  If you want to be right in the heart of the action, choose a hotel within walking distance of Pike Place Market.  As Seattle's most famous tourist attraction, the Pike Place Market opened more than one hundred years ago, and is still a great place to shop for fresh, local foods and unique, locally made products.  Coffee lovers will want to make a stop at the original Starbucks coffee shop, which is situated at the market.   From the market, you can walk north along the waterfront to the Seattle Aquarium, or walk a few blocks uphill from the market to explore the Seattle Art Museum.  If you want to escape the city center, jump on board the city's unusual monorail system to Seattle Center, where you can ascend the iconic Space Needle or rock out at the Experience Music Project.
