Flying Blue Loyalty Program and Miles Promotions
Air France offers the Flying Blue membership, a loyalty program that allows you to earn and redeem on purchases with the airline and affiliate partners. The program has four tiers: Ivory, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. As you advance through the tiers, you earn miles faster and gain access to more exclusive rewards and privileges.
Flying Blue has two types of points: Levels miles and Awards miles. Your number of Levels miles determines your standing within the program; the more you earn, the faster you advance through the tiers. Levels miles are earned only on the flights, and are based on both distance and number of qualifying segments.
Ivory membership is the entry-level tier, and includes benefits such as free seat selection during check in and discounts on additional baggage. Silver tier cardholders receive greater discounts and an additional bag free of charge. Members in Gold tier receive free transfers between Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports, and VIP lounge access. Those in Platinum, the highest tier of the program, receive free Plus seats, Platinum Service Line access, and a range of SkyPriority services.
Awards miles can be earned on both flights and everyday purchases. These include air travel with Air France and KLM, as well as purchases on cars, hotels, and online retailers. Once you have accrued enough Awards miles, they can be redeemed for free flights, hotels, and flight upgrades such as extra legroom or additional baggage. Awards miles can also be donated to participating charities, including UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, and World Wildlife Fund.
Seat Reservations and Additional Legroom
You can check in for your Air France flight online through the website or mobile app, or in person at the airport. Online check in opens 30 hours before your scheduled departure. Once you have checked in, you will receive your boarding pass via email or direct download. You can choose to print your boarding pass at home, or save it to the mobile app to be scanned at the airport. If you are travelling with checked luggage, you can also print your baggage tags at home to save time at the airport.
Self-service kiosks are available at most airports, and can be used to check in or to print your boarding pass and baggage tags if you have already checked in online.
Standard seat selection is available free of charge beginning 30 hours before your flight. If you wish to reserve a standard seat prior to check in, there is an additional small fee. If you would prefer a seat with extra legroom, Seat Plus can be reserved when you book your ticket, after purchase, or during check in. Pricing for Seat Plus begins at 10 € for short haul flights, and increases with the length of your flight. Seats in rows of two and seats at the front of the cabin are also available for an additional charge.
Baggage Allowance and Fees
Carry on baggage for your Air France flight is dependent upon your cabin. You will be allowed to bring either one or two pieces of luggage, in addition to one personal item. For cabin baggage allowance on a particular flight, visit the baggage calculator to see what you will be allowed to bring.
A carry on bag must not exceed the dimensions of 55 x 35 x 25 cm, and the combined weight of either 12kg or 18kg depending upon your cabin. If your bag exceeds the dimension or weight limit, it will be placed in the hold and you may be charged a checked luggage fee. In the case of insufficient cabin space, your carry on luggage may be checked free of charge.
Checked baggage is dependent upon your cabin, ticket fare, and Flying Blue membership tier. If you have already purchased a ticket, your checked baggage allowance can be viewed on the My Reservations page of the website. If you have not yet purchased a ticket but would like to know the baggage allowance for a specific fare, visit the baggage calculator to view different options. For intercontinental flights, an Economy class ticket typically includes one checked bag up to 23kg. Certain destinations may be eligible for additional free checked luggage.
A checked bag with Air France may not exceed 158 cm in dimensions. Economy bags are limited to 23kg, while Business and Premier may not exceed 32kg. Oversize and overweight bags will be charged additional fees that vary depending upon your destination.
In Flight Dining and Entertainment
Air France offers a complimentary meal of the day on all long haul flights. If you would prefer to select a different meal, the “A La Carte” menu also offers a variety of chef inspired dishes available for purchase. Special meals are available for those with dietary restrictions, and must be ordered at least 48 hours in advance of your flight. For children up to 8 years of age, infant and child friendly meals include a selection of fun and healthy options.
Personal seatback screens are programmed with a selection of TV, movies, music, and games. On intercontinental flights, headphones are provided free of charges for all ticket classes.
Air France also offers Air France Play, an entertainment app that provides you with additional fun during your flight. Download the free app on your mobile device, and sign in starting 30 hours before your scheduled departure. You can then download a variety of videos, newspapers, and magazines that can be viewed during your flight. On both the app and in-flight entertainment systems, a selection of child friendly programming is available.
Infant and Child Fares and Unaccompanied Minors
Air France welcomes infants and children on board all flights, and makes special provisions to ensure family travel is as comfortable as possible.
Infants under the age of two can travel on your lap at no extra cost on flights within France, or at a reduced rate on international routes. Children receive discounted rates that vary depending upon your destination. Typically, there is a 15% discount on short flights and a 33% discount on medium and long haul routes.
Children and infants who sit in their own seat receive the same baggage allowance as an adult. You are welcome to bring a car seat and stroller in the cabin free of charge, provided that the stroller can be folded up. If your infant is travelling on your lap, you can also bring an additional piece of carry-on luggage up to 12kg.
Children between the ages of 5 and 14 who are travelling without an adult must be registered as Unaccompanied Minors on international flights. Your child will be welcomed into the Kids Solo service, and accompanied by an Air France staff member. This program is included in the price of your child’s ticket. Youths between the ages of 15 and 17 may fly unaccompanied on international routes, or may opt for the Kids Solo service for an additional fee.
Travelling with Pets
Pets are welcome on board most Air France flights. Small cats and dogs can travel with you in the cabin, provided that the combined weight of your pet and bag do not exceed 8kg. Animals weighing between 8kg and 75kg may travel in the hold. If your animal exceeds 75kg, you have the option to transport your pet as freight. Rates for transporting pets vary by destination, and typically begin at 125 € for flights to and from North America.
Reservations for pets cannot be booked online, and must be made through a customer service representative. As there are a limited number of pet reservations, be sure to book well in advance. Registered service dogs are welcome to travel with you in the cabin free of charge.
