China Southern Airlines is an airline based in Guangdong Province, China with an impressive history. With operations beginning in 1988, the airline has since grown to become Asia's top airline in terms of passengers carried, fleet size and revenue. They are a member of the SkyTeam alliance, sharing codeshare agreements with airlines like Asiana Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Korean Air.

China Southern's motto, "Fly Your Dreams", can truly be achieved due to their abundance of available flight routes. The airline flies to over a hundred destinations within the People's Republic of China, as well as to select destinations in countries like Australia, Thailand, Japan and Vietnam. Within Canada, China Southern flies to YYZ in Toronto and to YVR in Vancouver.

Why Fly China Southern Airlines

How to Check-in

If you are flying within China, you will be able to check in online, on a mobile app, by text message or by Wechat. All China Southern online and mobile check-in options close between 30 and 60 minutes before flight departure and can only be used on domestic, non-transfer, non-codeshare flights.

China Southern Airlines passengers can also take advantage of self-serve kiosks, located in airports in many domestic cities, as well as in Seoul (ICN), Taipei (TPE), Vancouver (YVR) and Tokyo (NRT). All other international passengers will need to check in at a staffed service counter.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

On China Southern domestic and international flights, passengers will be permitted to bring one piece of carry-on baggage no heavier than 5kg. First Class passengers can have two pieces, but the total weight must still remain under 5kgs.

China Southern Airlines checked baggage limits vary depending on your flight and fare type. On domestic flights, Economy Class passengers can check one bag no heavier than 20kgs. First Class passengers are allowed to check a bag up to 40kgs.

On international flights, Economy passengers can generally check two bags, each weighing 23kgs or less. First Class passengers can bring three bags, each weighing 32kgs or less. Additional or oversized baggage can be prepaid or charged at the airport.

Seating

All China Southern passengers will be permitted to select their preferred standard seat upon check-in. Advanced standard seat selection is also available free of charge for all domestic flights and for some international routes.

The airline's premium seats offer 40% more legroom than standard seats and can be reserved for around $115 CAD.

Booking Fees

All domestic flights can be purchased online, on the phone or at the airport. Some international flights may not be able to be purchased online. China Southern payment methods include Visa, Mastercard and Paypal, as well as certain online banking services. China Southern Airlines does not charge a fee if you use a CAD-linked payment method, however your bank will likely charge a currency exchange fee.

Sky Pearl Club

China Southern's membership program is called Sky Pearl Club. Members earn miles for flying with China Southern as well as for staying at certain hotels, using certain car rental services and flying with partner airlines. Collecting miles allows you to move up from the Base Card, to the Silver Card, and to the program's highest tier, the Gold Card.
