Cheap Flights to Cancun

Once you glimpse the powdery-white beaches surrounded by gleaming high-rise hotels and luxurious resorts, you know you have arrived in Cancun. Cancun was once synonymous with the notorious Spring Break shenanigans of America’s youth, but it has a much classier reputation these days. Essentially a tale of two cities, Cancun’s downtown and more authentic El Centro district buzzes with old school cantinas and cheap taco stands, and the swanky Zona Hotelera is a beachfront strip of resorts, bikini bars, spas, boutiques, and suntanned pleasure seekers. It is easy to flit between Cancun’s two worlds as a mood takes you. El Centro’s street markets are brimming with trinkets and handicrafts, as well as local color, and if you are seeking straightforward tequila-fueled hedonism, you will find plenty at any bar or club on the Zona Hotelera strip.

Most flights to Cancun take you to Mexico’s second-biggest airport, which handles most of the international air traffic in the country. As the gateway to the glitzy beach resorts of the Riviera Maya, Cancun Airport is a fast-growing air hub and it shows no signs of slowing down. There is a wide array of transportation options - visitors can choose from authorized taxicabs, shared vans, and private shuttle services that include flashy limos for up to 10 people. The public transportation ADO is the cheapest option in Cancun, but it only ferries passengers to downtown terminals and Playa del Carmen. From these areas, you will have to find your own ride to get to your hotel.

Unsurprisingly, the opportunity to enjoy watersports is one of the biggest reasons travellers go to Cancun. For a pleasant escape, many visitors like to go snorkeling around Isla Mujeres or swim with dolphins at nearby Garrafón National Park. Daily excursions offer a window into the mystical world of Mayan culture at the breathtaking ruins of Chichen Itza or Tulum – both of which can be seen on a day trip from Cancun resorts. Travellers who leave these intriguing ancient sites often have more questions than answers, but that is the unique beauty of traveling to Cuba.

Cancun’s can-do attitude is apparent once a guest leaves the hotel. In downtown, there is an artsy, authentic vibe that makes it fun to people-watch in the vibrant haven of Parque Las Palapas. The edgy El Centro is the real deal for people who crave happening backstreet bars with rocking live music, or who don’t mind getting lost in the mazy lanes of the area’s many raucous flea markets. While somewhat challenging to navigate at first, El Centro has a friendly urban feel and it is easy to find new amigos.
