transavia flights & tickets

Transavia is a Dutch no-frills airline operated by the Air France-KLM conglomerate. With flights to destinations all over Europe, the Mediterranean, and even Dubai and Tel Aviv in the Middle East, and a few airports in North Africa, it serves a wide network. Flying a fleet consisting entirely of Boeing 737 jetliners, and touching secondary airports in most cities (Gatwick in London, Orly in Paris, and Eindhoven in the Netherlands, for example), the airline is both popular and competitive. Looking on Skyscanner can help you find the cheapest fares.

Like many other low-cost airlines, Transavia is primarily preferred for its affordable ticket prices. The airline, however, often receives praise for its new aircraft and friendly crew, qualities often seen on budget airlines. The fact that the airline offers 10 kg of cabin baggage, one of the highest in the industry, works in its favor, as well.

Others tend to have problems with the airline for its small seats, frequent inability to allow passengers to choose specific seats, customer service that doesn’t speak English, and customer support that tends to be unavailable when there are cancellations, damage to luggage, and other problems. Calling customer service is usually a costly at 1 euro-a-minute rate.

Why fly Transavia

Checking in

Transavia offers online check-in facilities that start 30 hours before any departure and closes 4 hours prior. If you check in online over a smartphone, you can’t show them a paper boarding pass; you need to show them one on a phone.

You are allowed one item of hand luggage that weighs 10 kg, but purses, laptops and cameras are also counted against this allowance. Luggage to check in, that Transavia calls “hold” luggage, is separately charged on basic tickets. Plus fares do allow one bag, however.

If the sizing is slightly incorrect to allow stowage and overhead been or under the seat, they will usually ask you to check it and for free. At many airports, Transavia staff are seen denying carry-on luggage for various other reasons, however. If you believe that you may need to check something in, buying ahead on the website is cheaper than buying right at the airport.

In Flight Ammenities

It’s important to remember that the airline doesn’t offer onboard entertainment or power outlets at seats. On long flights, you should have your own entertainment. If you are a tall person, it can help to ask for an extra-legroom seat. Transavia offers meals on board for purchase, but water bottles are often free.
