Copa Airlines Cheap Flights, Flight Deals, and Airline Tickets

The flag carrier of Panama, Copa Airlines is the largest airline operating in Central America and the Caribbean. The airline is headquartered in Panama City and has its main hub at Panama City's Tocumen International Airport. A subsidiary of Copa Holdings, S.A., Copa Airlines is also the owner and operator of Copa Airlines Colombia. When it first began operations in 1947, Copa Airlines started out as a domestic carrier. The airline later abandoned much of its domestic network in favour of an international one. Today, Copa Airlines flies to over 70 destinations in over 30 countries as a member of the Star Alliance.

Copa Airlines was established in 1944 but didn't commence operations until three years later. Its first domestic flights were carried on a small fleet of Douglas DC-3s. After a few decades as a regional airline, in the 1970s, Copa Airlines introduced international flights to Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Colombia. Throughout the 80s and 90s, Copa Airlines continued to expand its flight network in Central America and the Caribbean. In the 2000s and 2010s, the airline expanded north and south to major North and South American cities, including Toronto. 2012 marked an important year for Copa Airlines, as it joined the Star Alliance and increased flight frequencies to several of its most popular destinations. Since then, Copa Airlines has continued to grow its extensive flight network throughout the Americas.

Why Fly with Copa Airlines

Loyalty Programs, Discounts and Miles promotions

Copa Airlines has a loyalty program known as ConnectMiles, which offers numerous benefits for frequent fliers. Members earn one ConnectMile per each mile flown on a regular Copa Airlines fare. Miles can also be earned when flying with any other Star Alliance airline partner or when purchasing products or services from ConnectMiles partners. Bonus miles are often available for members as part of various ConnectMiles promotions. Once you've saved up enough miles, you can spend them on award flights with Copa Airlines, Copa Airlines Colombia, United Airlines, and other Star Alliance Member airlines.

Frequent fliers with Copa Airlines may earn enough miles to reach PreferMember status. There are three different PreferMember tiers: Silver, Gold, and Platinum. The higher your tier, the more benefits you can enjoy, such as a higher rate of accruing ConnectMiles, fee waivers, flight upgrades, preferential access, and more.

How to Check In, Seating Assignment, Leg Room and Other Fees

Copa Airlines offers three different ways to check in for your flight. Passengers are welcome to check in at the airport and must do so if they are travelling with pets or infants, or if they need special assistance. Other travellers also have the option of checking in online or through mobile. You can use web or mobile check-in even if you are travelling with checked baggage, just make sure you arrive at the check-in counter at least 90 minutes before your flight to drop off your bags.

Seat selection for your Copa Airlines flight will become available at the time of check-in. However, passengers also have the option of choosing their seats ahead of time for an additional fee. This may come in handy if you want to make sure that you and your travel companions can all sit together, or if you would like to ensure a specific seat for yourself.

Seats in the main cabin of every Copa Airlines flight have a pitch of 31". Copa Airlines Business Class seats on the Embraer 190AR A, Boeing 737-700, and Boeing 737-800 A have a pitch of 38", while Business Class seats on the Boeing 737-800 B have a pitch of 49".

Baggage Allowance and Fees

Most main cabin and Business Class passengers are allowed to bring one piece of carry-on baggage weighing up to 10 kg on any Copa Airlines flight. Business Class passengers with a ConnectMiles Gold or Platinum membership may bring up to two carry-on bags. Carry-on baggage cannot exceed dimensions of 56x36x26 cm in height, length, and width. Each passenger on a Copa Airlines flight is also allowed to bring one personal item such as a backpack, handbag, or laptop bag.

The amount and weight of checked baggage that a passenger is allotted for a Copa Airlines flight will depend on their specific itinerary. For all flights, however, baggage over 158 combined linear centimetres will be charged an excess baggage fee and baggage over 272 combined linear centimetres must be transported as cargo.

Service On Board: In-flight Entertainment and Meals

Copa Airlines refreshes its onboard entertainment service on a monthly basis, bringing passengers new movies, TV shows, and music channels to tune in to. Programming is available in Spanish, Portuguese, and English. If you'd rather do a bit of light reading, then you can take a look through a copy of Panorama of the America's – Copa Airline's onboard magazine – for interesting articles on tourism, literature, and science.

Copa Airlines' onboard service for meals, snacks, and beverages varies depending on flight duration, though even the shortest flights come with a complimentary snack. A light breakfast is provided on flights less than two hours in duration if the flight departs early in the morning. Flights over two hours in length provide snacks, breakfast, and a hot meal also depending on the time of the flight and on the origin destination. Passengers who require special meal service for dietary restrictions are asked to contact the airline at least 24 hours before departure.

Child Fares/Fees, Minor Service guidelines

Infants up to 23 months old can fly free of charge on Copa Airlines domestic flights and must travel in the lap of an adult. Infants may also fly on the lap of an adult on international flights at 10% of an adult fare. On international flights, you have the option of purchasing an extra seat for your infant, but you must pay the regular discounted price for children. Only one infant is allowed to fly on the lap of one adult passenger. If you will be travelling with two infants, then you must purchase at least one extra seat.

Children under five years of age must always be accompanied by an adult over 18 years of age on Copa Airlines flights. Children between the ages of five and seven are accepted on direct flights as unaccompanied minors for a USD 60 fee. Children between the ages of eight and 14 are accepted as unaccompanied minors on direct flights for USD 60 and on flights with connections for USD 90. Minors between 15 and 17 may travel alone, but parents can opt for optional unaccompanied minor service for them as well.

Pet Policy

Copa Airlines allows cats and dogs to travel in the main passenger cabin of the aircraft on all flights except for weekend international flights. The combined weight of the pet and its container must not exceed 9 kg. The container itself must not exceed 43x33x19 cm in dimensions if it has rigid sides and 45.5x23x23 cm if it has soft sides. Only one pet may be carried in each container and only one pet is allowed per passenger. There is also an additional transportation fee of USD 25 on domestic Copa Airlines flights and USD 125 on international flights for pet transport.

Pets that exceed the weight and size restrictions for carry-on transport must fly as cargo and can only be sent Monday to Thursday. The cost of transporting a pet as cargo with Copa Airlines depend on the weight and dimensions of the pet and its carrier.
