Why Fly Calm Air

Check-in and Seating

Calm Air recommends a check-in time of 90 minutes prior to scheduled departure, check-in closes 45 minutes prior, and all passengers must be at the gate no later than 30 minutes before departure. Travellers must present government-issued photo ID in order to fly. Following check-in, passengers in Winnipeg and Thompson will proceed through security screening. Seats can not be pre-booked. All seating is on a first come first served basis.

Each passenger is permitted 2 free carry-on items with a maximum combined weight of 9 kg. Passengers on Calm Air enjoy a generous free baggage allowance of two or three pieces of luggage depending on the aircraft. Weight restrictions apply. Excess baggage which exceeds the maximum size, weight, or number of pieces must be sent as cargo and will be charged accordingly.

Pets as Cargo

Cargo is a large part of Calm Air's business, and live animals can be transported as freight. Pets may be transported with or without an accompanying owner. There is limited space for live animals, so pets must be booked in advance and travel in a hard-sided kennel. Soft-sided pet carriers are only allowed in the cabin. Pets as cargo must be checked in two hours prior to scheduled departure time, and two animals who are accustomed to each other may travel in the same carrier provided there is space for them to stand up and turn around.

Fare Structure

Calm Air offers family travel plan rates to encourage families to travel together. This is available from Winnipeg to various destinations. There are discounted connector fares from northern Manitoba for passengers connecting to sunshine destinations. The different fare structures include restricted fares which can only be booked between 1 and 14 days in advance of the flight and unrestricted fares with more flexibility to make changes to dates and names. Seat sales and promotional fares are non-refundable.

In-flight Service

Calm Air offers all passenger free juice, coffee, soft drinks, and snacks. Passengers on flights longer than two hours are given meals. Alcoholic beverages can be purchased at a cost of $5 and cash is the only accepted form of payment. Passengers are welcome to bring their own food on board.
