Inside: New York City Airports
The New York airport you choose to help you get to Toronto will depend on which airline you fly with. JFK serves American Eagle and Delta, LaGuardia serves American Eagle, Air Canada, and WestJet, while Newark serves Air Canada and United. Unfortunately, none of New York's airports have a great reputation for providing award-winning customer service, with LaGuardia in particular being rather infamous for its dated facilities. However, you will at least find plenty of food and shopping options at each airport and all are easily accessible either by public transit or car.
Check-In: New York City Airports
As you can see above, Air Canada and American Eagle both fly to Toronto from two separate New York City airports, so make sure you know which airport you are flying out of before you leave. Furthermore, if you are flying out of JFK with Delta be aware that the airline uses two different terminals at the airport, so, again, make sure you know where to go before heading out. As with all international flights, you should get to the airport at least three hours before your scheduled departure and have your passport on hand. All three airports can get extremely busy during peak travel times and delays at security and customs should be expected.
What to Expect When Landing in Toronto
Air Canada and United typically land at Terminal 1 in Toronto, which is the newest terminal and the easiest to navigate. All other airlines flying in from New York use Terminal 3, which is linked to Terminal 1 by a free train service. Terminal 1 is where you can also catch the UP Express train to downtown Toronto, while Greyhound, GO Transit, and the TTC offer bus service to Toronto, its suburbs, and to destinations throughout southern Ontario. You can also rent a car with any of the rental agencies located on Level 1 of the parking garages.
