Kenya Airways offers online check-in for international and regional flights between 30 hours and 3 hours before departure. Check-in is also available at the desk or via the Kenya Airways KQ mobile app. All international passengers must check in two and a half hours before flight departure. Domestic passengers are asked to check in one and a half hours prior to departure. Flying Blue Elite members traveling from Nairobi have access to priority boarding.


All passengers on Kenya Airways are allowed at least one piece of hold baggage weighing up to 32kg. Some passengers may take two pieces, depending on fare class. At least one piece of carry-on baggage is allowed with a maximum weight of 12 kg, with more for higher fare classes. Fees for excess baggage vary depending on the type of baggage and fare class. Special baggage rates apply to heavy or odd-sized baggage, including sports equipment. And not all aircraft are equipped to carry all baggage.

Extra leg room seats are available in the emergency exit rows, and passengers must meet physical requirements to occupy these seats. In-flight entertainment is offered in the form of individual screens at every seat on almost every flight, and copies of Msafiri, the monthly in-flight magazine of Kenya Airways. Personal electronic devices, like laptop computers, tablets, and mobile phones are allowed at cruising altitude only.


Kenya Airways has a good record for on-time flights, with an 80% punctuality rating. The airline also participates in a carbon offset program, helping to protect over 500,000 acres of forest, and maintaining the Kasigau corridor, providing natural spaces for wildlife. Passengers can choose to participate in this voluntary program at the payment stage of ticket purchase. The carbon offset program provides benefits for all Kenyans to promote health and well-being.
