Also known as Dorval Airport for the neighborhood that it calls home, Montréal's Pierre Trudeau airport is a short 16 km trip from the city. The 747 bus will get you to the airport at $8, and if you're willing to take a little extra trouble, you can get on the VIA rail and get off at the airport stop a mile away from the terminal.

While traveling by road is likely to be simpler, it's important to remember that construction or snow tend to cause traffic jams en route. It's important to account for these things when you plan when to leave home for the airport.

It's also a good idea to plan for extra time and allow for delays at the airport. While it's a single terminal building, it's very large, and you need to account for time to walk all the way to your gate. Because signage tends to be inadequate, you'll need directions, which could slow you down. Security and lines could be very long as well.

With enough time on hand, this airport can be positively delightful. There is shopping to do and there are lots of award-winning restaurants.

Flying into Toronto Pearson

Toronto Pearson is a large, two-terminal airport. Arriving here may be rough, depending on how busy things are. If you happen to come at a time when other flights arrive, everything from getting off the plane to collecting your bags is likely to take a while. It's good idea to plan for an hour. If you are in need of disabled assistance, you should be prepared. With limited facilities in these areas things tend to be strained during peak hours.

The easiest way to get to the city is to hop aboard a complimentary hotel shuttle bus. You should go on Skyscanner to find a deal, and you'll have a shuttle waiting to pick you up at the airport. If you'd like to use public transportation, however, there are all kinds of alternatives. The Union Pearson Express train leaves for the city every 15 minutes, and there many bus routes, as well.

Having a great time in Toronto

Toronto is a beautiful, diverse city, with something for everyone. If you'd like an easy introduction to the city, you should take a Toronto harbor cruise, or a Toronto bus tour. There's a day tour available to Niagara, as well. While you do have everything from the CN Tower to the Distillery District, and the Eaton Center shopping destination to explore, it may be far more fun to find your own way around. You simply need to head to an interesting district, and wander. There's no telling what you'll discover.
