EgyptAir Cheap Flights, Flight Deals, and Airline Tickets

The flag carrier of Egypt, EgyptAir is based out of the Cairo International Airport in the country's capital. Including the airline's extensive network of domestic destinations, EgyptAir services over 80 destinations throughout the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe. EgyptAir operates a few routes to the United States and Canada as well. EgyptAir is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization, the Arabesk Airline Alliance, and the Star Alliance. Its status as a Star Alliance member is unique in that it is the only member airline based in the Middle East and North Africa.

EgyptAir is one of the oldest operating airlines in the world. In fact, when it was established back in 1932, it became only the world's seventh carrier. Back then, it was known as Misr Airlines, as Misr is the Egyptian word for Egypt. The airline officially commenced operations in 1933 with a route from Cairo to Alexandria. Over the course of 1935, Misr Airlines had flown nearly 7,000 passengers. In 1946 the airline's name was changed to MisrAir and, after a merger with Syrian Airlines in 1960, changed again to United Arab Airlines. In 1969, United Arab Airlines became the first Middle Eastern airline to fly a Boeing 707. The name "EgyptAir" finally came about when MisrAir and Syrian Airlines split in 1971.

More recently, in July of 2002, EgyptAir became a holding company that could operate without government interference. Then, in 2008, EgyptAir became a member of the Star Alliance network.

EgyptAir Fleet

EgyptAir has a fleet consisting of over 50 aircraft, with a mixture of Airbus and Boeing models. Half the fleet is made up of Boeing 737-800s, which have a capacity of 144 passengers. The airline also operates much larger Boeing 777-300ERs and Airbus A330-300s for long-haul flights. EgyptAir's business relationship with Boeing began back in 1968, while its relationship with Airbus is more recent, having started in 1995. The airline currently has orders in place with both manufacturers.

Why Fly with EgyptAir

Loyalty Programs, Discounts and Miles promotions

If you find yourself flying frequently with EgyptAir, then you should consider signing up for the EgyptAir Plus program. As an EgyptAir Plus member, you'll earn miles every time you fly. Miles can then be redeemed on reward tickets for EgyptAir flights. Miles can also be used for ticket upgrades to Business Class from Economy Class or to First Class from Business Class. EgyptAir Plus members further benefit from the ability to redeem their miles for excess baggage.

As EgyptAir is a member of the Star Alliance, EgyptAir Plus members can redeem and earn miles when flying with any of the alliance's carriers. Having 30,000 EgyptAir Plus miles in your account when flying with a Star Alliance airline grants an automatic upgrade to the Star Alliance Silver level while having 60,000 miles grants an upgrade to the Star Alliance Gold level.

How to Check In, Seating Assignment, Leg Room and Other Fees

Once it's time to check in for your EgyptAir flight, you can do so at the airport or through web or mobile check-in. Both web check-in and mobile check-in are available starting 48 hours before departure until 90 minutes before departure. This means that you can check in for your flight from your home, hotel, or office. When checking in online, you will have the option to print your boarding pass. When checking in through mobile, you will receive a digital boarding pass that does not need to be printed but can simply be shown straight off your device.

While using any method of check-in for an EgyptAir flight, you will have the option to select your seat from a seat map. EgyptAir Plus members can redeem miles for a seat upgrade if they would like more leg and elbow room. Every passenger, including EgyptAir Plus members, can also try to upgrade their seat for a small fee through Optiontown. Prior to departure, you will receive an e-mail letting you know if your upgrade was successful. If no upgrade was available on your selected flight, then you will receive a refund.

Baggage Allowance and Fees

EgyptAir typically allows economy passengers to bring one carry-on item weighing up to 8 kg on board, while First and Business Class passengers can bring up to two items. This applies on most domestic and international flights. Carry-on baggage on flights out of South Africa, however, can only weigh up to 7 kg.

EgyptAir's checked baggage allowances differ based on domestic and international routes. On domestic flights, passengers are entitled to one piece of checked baggage weighing up to 23 kg and measuring a maximum of 158 cm in total dimensions. On international flights, this allowance is increased to two free checked bags per passenger. EgyptAir Plus and Star Alliance members typically receive a greater checked and hand baggage allowance on all flights.

Any additional pieces of checked baggage will be charged an excess baggage fee. The fee varies depending on itinerary but typically costs over $100 USD. Pieces of baggage that are overweight (24 kg to 32 kg), oversized (150 cm to 203 cm in total dimensions), or oversized and overweight will incur additional fees as well.

Service On Board: In-flight Entertainment and Meals

You'll never be bored on an EgyptAir flight with all of the fantastic in-flight entertainment options available. Choose from an extensive collection of movies, TV shows, and audio channels and sit back and relax. Egyptair even allows you to connect to the internet and make phone calls during flights on its Airbus A330-300 aircraft with ONAIR mobile and internet services.

All standard meals served on EgyptAir flights are prepared Halal, so there is no need to put in a special request. EgyptAir is also very accommodating to other dietary needs and restrictions. As long as you contact the airline ahead of time, they can prepare Kosher meals, diabetic meals, Hindu meals, seafood meals, low-fat and low-sodium meals, and vegetarian meals.

Child Fares/Fees, Minor Service guidelines

EgyptAir offers discounted rates for children under 12 years of age. Infants under two years of age receive an additional discount when flying on the lap of an accompanying adult. If only one adult is flying with two infants, then they will need to purchase a second seat at a child's fare.

If you have a child that needs to fly alone, then you'll be glad to hear that EgyptAir has an unaccompanied minors program which accepts children aged two to 11 on both domestic and international flights. Unaccompanied minors require the payment of a full adult fare plus an additional $25 USD. Children between two and six years of age incur a second adult fare to cover the cost of the air hosts that will accompany them during the trip. Additional fees may apply depending on the destination and on connecting flights. EgyptAir also requires that an unaccompanied minor be dropped off at the airport by an authorized guardian.

Pet Policy

Pet owners will be glad to hear that EgyptAir has a very accommodating pet policy. The airline accepts dogs and cats that are at least eight weeks old and properly vaccinated. The total weight of an animal and its carrier combined, when flying in the cabin, must not exceed 8 kg. Carriers also cannot exceed 55x40x20 cm in dimensions. An animal and its carrier weighing over 8 kg and less than 45 kg can fly as checked baggage in the cargo hold, while animals over 45 kg will need to be shipped as cargo. Pets are not included in your free baggage allowance with EgyptAir and will be charged at a rate applicable to excess baggage according to their weight.
