Arriving in Bangkok

After arriving in either Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) or Don Mueang Airport (DMK) in Bangkok, follow the signs to collect your baggage and move through Thai customs. Make sure you've filled out your declaration card correctly!

After such a long flight, you'll want to make your way to your hotel quickly. If it's your first time in Thailand, we suggest taking a taxi directly from the airport. You'll find them lined up just outside the arrivals area. Despite Thailand's active tourism industry, many taxi drivers speak very little English. Have the location of your hotel or guesthouse ready, written in both Thai and English if possible. You can also make a pin in Google Maps of your hotel's location ahead of time so your driver knows exactly where it is.

Often, taxi drivers will offer to take the highway for a faster route. However, Thailand's highways have toll fees that you'll be expected to pay if your taxi takes that route, so be aware! Taxi rates vary based on your distance travelled, but will typically cost between $5 and $15.

Practical Information

As a Canadian, you can visit Thailand for up to 30 days as long as your passport is valid for at least 6 months past your date of departure. You'll be issued a 30-day tourist visa upon arrival. Because this is a fairly long flight, we suggest wearing comfortable clothing and having a bite to eat in the airport before you leave. Plan on arriving at least 3 hours before your international flight to account for any delays.
