What to Expect When Arriving at the Airport
Arrivals at Amsterdam Airport's single terminal are on the ground level. The terminal does have six different concourses so it is fairly spread out. Schiphol Airport is only 22 kilometres from downtown Amsterdam. The fastest way to get to the city centre from the airport is the Sprinter Rapid Transit, about a 10-minute ride. Car rentals are available near baggage claim with other transportation options just outside.

Upon arrival, you'll find a number of ATMs, currency exchange outlets and gift shops in both the pre- and post-security areas. Most passenger services are in a central shopping zone, called Schiphol Plaza, right outside the arrivals gates. Duty Free shops, name-brand stores and several eateries are in this area. Wi-Fi is free throughout Amsterdam airport and at the Communication Centre, the latter specially designed to accommodate business travellers. A mobile phone rental outfit is located in the arrivals section of concourse 1 and 2. A number of hotels are also nearby.
