Cheap flights to Taiwan

Taiwan is a small, densely populated island located just off the coast of mainland China. Although Taiwan is geographically small, it packs quite a few sights and wonders in its small area. Bustling cosmopolitan cities, historic temples, dramatic mountain ranges, and relaxing hot springs: they can all be found on this little island. Taiwan is served by quite a few international airlines and you can find the cheapest month to fly by searching for available flights through Skyscanner.

What to do in Taiwan

Whether you're in the mood for the serenity of nature or the bustle of the city, Taiwan has you covered. The capital and largest city, Taipei, is a massive metropolis home to one of the world's tallest skyscrapers (Taipei 101), fantastic cuisine, and wonderful museums, most notably the National Palace Museum. Also in Taipei is the Longshan Temple of Manka, Taiwan's most well-known and best preserved temple dating back to the early 18th century. When it comes to natural treasures the Taroko Gorge is a stunning sight and the mountains in central Taiwan are ideal for hiking. Hot springs are also a popular attraction and some of the most famous include Wulai, Beitou, and Yangmingshan. Yangmingshan is also a popular spot to see the cherry blossoms bloom in the spring.

Best time to fly to Taiwan

The high season in Taiwan is July to August, when temperatures are sweltering and most hotels are fully booked. Chinese New Year is also a hugely popular time and if you're planning on travelling then you will need to find flights and hotels well in advance. Typhoon season runs from June to October, which can mean flights may get cancelled at the last minute. The good news is that from November to May (again, with the exception of Chinese New Year) you can take advantage of steep discounts on hotels and flights while still enjoying the nice tropical weather.

Airports in Taiwan

Taiwan's main international airport is the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport located 40 km west of downtown Taipei. If you are flying directly from North America, this will be the airport you arrive at. It is a modern facility with car rental agencies, shops, restaurants, and easy connections to Taipei and the rest of the island. Taiwan's other airports include Taichung, Tainan, Siaogang, and Songshan, all of which have connections to destinations in Asia, including Hong Kong, mainland China, Japan, and South Korea, as well as to Taiwan's smaller islands.
