Airlines That fly from Tokyo to Bangkok
Flights from Tokyo, Japan, leave from two airports, Narita International (NRT) and Haneda Airport (HND). Both airports have dedicated international terminals that airlines use when flying to Bangkok, Thailand. Airlines out of Narita include Scoot Airlines, Air Asia and Thai Airways, with some flights heading to Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) and others into the Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). Flights out of Haneda Airport (HND) are found on Thai Airways, Japan Airlines and Bangkok Airways. Most all of these flights arrive into Don Mueang International.
What to Expect When Arriving in Bangkok
International flights arriving into Don Mueang International use Terminal 1, while flights into Suvarnabhumi Airport arrive in either Terminal 1 or 2. The third terminal at this airport is for domestic flights. Don Mueang International is roughly 26 kilometres from the city centre, while Suvarnabhumi Airport is 31 kilometres away. Get from Don Mueang to downtown Bangkok using the BMTA bus service, shuttles, taxis or by renting a car. Transportation options at Suvarnabhumi Airport are similar.
Airport Facilities
Both airports have several ATMs and currency change outlets in pre and post-screening areas. Free WiFi is available in both facilities, as are tourist SIM cards at a weekly rate. Chargers for media devices are also available. VAT refund desks are also onsite. VAT, or Value Added Tax, is a fee added on to purchases in some countries. Visitors are exempt and may request refunds. Dining options include cafes, fast food outlets and delis, some with Thai food, others with more Western-style fare. Name brand shops, quaint boutiques and specialty shops are scattered throughout the terminals.
Things to Do and See in Bangkok
Dating back to 1782, the Grand Palace was once home to the Kings of Siam. The ornate building is now part museum, part government offices and home to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Wat Arun, also called the Temple of Dawn, sits next to the Chao Phraya River. Wat is simply the word for Buddhist temple. Wat Arun is quite impressive at sunset. In the midst of Bangkok, Lumphini Park offers the chance to enjoy some open green space in this often bustling city. Stroll among the trees or rent a boat and paddle on the man-made lake. For some serious shopping, head for CentralWorld, considered one of the largest malls on the planet. In addition to shops, eateries and entertainment venues, this shopping center has a hotel and an office complex.
