Getting to Bari Airport

BRI is a small regional airport offering flights to and from a variety of European destinations. It is not a main hub for any airline, but offers flights through many international airlines, including discount options like Ryanair and easyJet. It's easy to find a cheap flight to Bari with so many options to choose from!

Unfortunately, there are no direct flights available from Canada to Bari. To get there, you'll have to take a layover in a major European city like Frankfurt (FRA), Munich (MUC), or Vienna (VIE).

Canadians don't need a visa to visit Italy, as long as you're staying for less than 90 days. Italy is also a Schengen area country, which means you can travel freely between Italy and other Schengen countries during your 90-day stay. Make sure your passport is valid for at least 30 days longer than your trip to avoid any issues at the airport!

Bari Airport Facilities

BRI is a small but modern airport with several shopping and dining options. There is free wi-fi available to all passengers, as long as you are willing to link your Facebook or Google+ account to the airport's network. The Information Desk is located near the ticket booth in the departures area, and currency exchange services are located in the arrivals area. There is duty-free shopping available through Traveller's World.

Despite offering a number of international routes, most of the airport staff speak little to no English. To find your way around the airport, be sure to pay attention to the signs! There are busses, taxis, a train, and car rental services available to get you from the airport to your hotel in Bari.

What to Do in Bari

Bari is a southern Italian port city on the Adriatic Sea, complete with medieval cobblestone streets, churches, and castles. Bari's Old Town, Barivecchia, is a maze-like network of narrow alleys and stunning architecture that has to be seen to be believed. The city's most famous church, Basilica di San Nicola, was built in the 12th century and once held the remains of Saint Nicholas (also known as Father Christmas!). Today, it remains an important pilgrimage site for Catholics and Orthodox Christians.

The Murat quarter of the city, in the south, is where you'll find the city's newer architecture and shopping areas. Piazza Mercantile is the commercial heart of the city, while the area's main street is home to the historic Petruzzelli Theatre. Be sure to taste some of the region's famous cheese and regional wines while you're there!
