Airports in Iran

Iran is a big country with a number of major airports. The following are some of the busiest and most useful ones for travellers:

  • Tehran Mehrabad International Airport
  • Mashhad International Airport
  • Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport
  • Shiraz International Airport
  • Isfahan International Airport

Choosing an Airport

Tehran has two major airports and which one you use will depend on where you are going. The Mehrabad International Airport is exclusively used for domestic flights and serves no international destinations, so if you are looking to travel around Iran that is the airport you will want to head to. The Imam Khomeini International Airport serves almost only international routes.

Mashhad International Airport, meanwhile, is the largest airport in the eastern part of the country, while Shiraz International serves the southern part of the country and Isfahan International serves the central part in addition to the beautiful and popular city of Isfahan.

Popular Destinations

From Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport you can fly to most major cities in Asia and Europe, which allows for connections to destinations even further away. Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport, meanwhile, is the country's busiest and will allow you to get almost anywhere you want to go in the country itself. Mashhad International has a more limited offering of international destinations, but it is a good choice if you want to get to Dubai or India. Shiraz International has good connections to the Middle East, as well as to Vienna and Istanbul. Finally, if you are in Isfahan you can choose from a number of exciting destinations, including Vienna, Istanbul, St. Petersburg, and Dubai. Wherever you end up, use Skyscanner's hotel search to help you find a great room.
