Cameroon Airport Options

Cameroon is home to two airports: Douala International Airport (DLA) and Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport (NSI). Domestic and international destinations are accessible from both airports.

Douala Airport is located 10 km from Cameroon's largest city, Douala. It is the busiest airport in the country. Over a dozen airlines fly out of DLA, including Air France, Camair-Co, and Kenya Airways.

Nsimalen Airport sits about 27 km from Cameroon's capital city, Yaoundé. The airport is a focus city for Camair-Co, the country's most popular airline. Other airline options include Brussels Airlines and Turkish Airlines.

Popular Destinations from Cameroon

You don't have to go far to have a fantastic vacation. Airlines at both DLA and NSI fly direct to Lomé, Togo. Lomé is a beautiful African city perfect for outdoor adventure with sandy beaches, beautiful hills and mountains, and countless outdoor marketplaces. Both airports also fly nonstop to many other African destinations, such as Nairobi, Kenya's capital city. Nairobi National Park houses animals like lions, cheetahs, and leopards and offers an incredible tourist experience.

Multiple airlines fly direct from Cameroon to Paris, one of Europe's most romantic cities. Flying nonstop to Brussels, Belgium's capital city, is also possible. Bring your appetite if you visit either city as both are famous for their incredible food.

Flying from Cameroon to Canada or to the United States are also great options as both countries have many major tourist cities. However, there are currently no direct flight options into North America. Flights from Cameroon to Toronto or Vancouver in Canada, or to Atlanta or Los Angeles in the States, will generally have a stop in either Paris or Brussels.

Getting to the Airport

A taxi ride from downtown Douala to Douala Airport will take about 15 minutes and a ride from downtown Yaoundé to Nsimalen Airport will take about 45 minutes. If you have your own vehicle, both airports also have ample parking lots for short- or long-term stays. If you need to transfer between Douala Airport and Nsimalen Airport, trains and public transit buses link the two cities. However, buses in Cameroon can get quite crowded.

Airport and Travel Tips

Both of Cameroon's airports support online check-in, so check with your airline to see if they offer this service. For domestic flights, you should aim to check in at least 90 minutes prior to departure and for international flights, you should check in three hours prior. If you have any questions, all reception staff at the two airports speak both English and French.

The waiting areas at DLA and NSI are comfortable and are equipped with free Wi-Fi. Both airports also have multiple boutiques dedicated to Cameroonian culture. If you are visiting friends or family, you can easily purchase last-minute gifts at the airport.
