Flying out of Tokyo
Tokyo has two international airports serving the city and region. Narita International Airport (NRT) is Tokyo's primary airport and is located about 60km outside of central Tokyo. Narita is accessible by train bus, car, or taxi. Long-term parking is available. Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) is located 14km south of Tokyo Station. It is accessible by monorail, local bus, or taxi. There is a shuttle bus between the domestic and international terminals. Both airports offer flights to Seoul, and direct flights last about two and one-half hours. Be sure to have your passport ready when passing through airport security as this will help the line move faster. Tokyo can be chilly in winter, and snow may cause flight delays. Seoul also gets snow and freezing temperatures in winter. Be prepared for the weather when you travel, and be sure to pack accordingly.
Flying in to Seoul
Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN) is the major airport serving Seoul, South Korea and is one of the busiest airports in the world. Incheon airport was built on reclaimed land between two islands and is 48.8km from central Seoul. The airport has food and beverage services as well as shopping in the public area. Seoul can be reached from Incheon by taking the Airport Railroad Express train, airport bus, or a taxi. Taxis can be found at the taxi stand outside the arrivals level.
Passengers from Tokyo may also arrive at Gimpo International Airport (GMP). Gimpo is located 15km west of central Seoul and serves mostly domestic flights, but also serves Tokyo. You can get to Seoul from Gimpo by taking subway line 5 or a taxi. You may rent a car if you have an International Driving Permit or driver's licence issued in Korea.
When arriving in Seoul, be sure to have your passport ready before you get to customs and immigration, and remember that you also need your arrival card and customs declaration card, which are given out on the airplane. International arrivals must go through customs screening after passing through immigration. This baggage x-ray and metal detector screening is the norm and you will get through the line faster if you are prepared.
Seoul is a major hub for both business and tourism. Winter is great for skiing, and summer are hot and humid. Book your hotel early, especially if you are visiting during the summer monsoon season, when the city is the busiest.
