Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport
Found on the Toronto Islands, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is a small international hub oftentimes referred to as the Toronto Island Airport. The airport has one main terminal for commercial airline service. Upon landing, passengers can catch a taxi, rent a car, or use public transportation. Shuttle buses leave about every 15 minutes and stop outside the Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto.
From 5:15 a.m. through 12:07 a.m., a ferry shuttles passengers to and from the airport to the mainland. The ferry ride only takes 90 seconds. In addition, the airport recently opened a passenger tunnel that connects Toronto's mainland with the airport.
Toronto Pearson International Airport
At Pearson International Airport, passengers on Air Canada, Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, and Lufthansa depart from Terminal 1, while those on Aer Lingus, Air France, American Airlines, Azores Airlines, Condor, Delta Air Lines, Icelandair, and KLM land at Terminal 3.
Although the airport sits around 20 km from downtown Toronto, travellers can use public transportation to head downtown. Buses run from all terminals to all areas of downtown, and the Union Pearson (UP) express train leaves Terminal 1 every 15 minutes. Passengers spend 25 minutes on the train to reach downtown. In the parking garage, Level 1 houses car rentals.
What You Need to Know
Passengers travelling on flights to Toronto from Frankfurt should arrive at the airport two hours before departure time. They also must have a valid passport to travel.
Travellers entering Canada must have a valid passport and an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), which they can buy for CA$7 through the Government of Canada's official website. Visa-exempt foreigners travelling to the country need an eTA, while U.S. and Canadian citizens, as well as those with a valid Canadian visa, do not.
