Flight Information

Seoul's two airports are Gimpo International Airport and Incheon International Airport. Gimpo, replaced by Incheon in 2001 as the main airport in South Korea, has few flights from Seoul to Hong Kong International.

Korean Air has Seoul to Hong Kong flights departing from Gimpo with a plane change in Pusan. Air China's Gimpo flights have a plane change and a layover of about eight hours in Beijing. Korean Air and Thai Airways International have nonstop flights to Hong Kong International from Seoul.

Gimpo International Airport

Gimpo has two terminals, Domestic Terminal and City Air Terminal. International passengers check in at the terminal in the city and travel nonstop by coach to the airport. City Duty Free is on the third floor post-security at the airport building.

Incheon International Airport

Incheon has a Main Terminal, with construction planned for a second one. When completed, the existing terminal becomes Terminal 1 and the new building becomes Terminal 2. Plans are for the new terminal to host SkyTeam and Korean Air in 2018. At Main Terminal, there are 250 check-in counters and 120 passport inspection counters. Departures are on the third floor of the Concourse.

Terminal Information for Hong Kong International Airport

Passengers must have their passport and a completed immigration form ready before proceeding to the Immigration Hall. Transport choices from the airport include Airport Express trains, hotel coaches, taxis, and public buses.

What You Need to Know

All travellers to Hong Kong need a passport, valid for at least one to six months beyond their intended stay. The amount of time depends on their nationality. Nationals of the Republic of Korea or Canada do not need a visa to enter Hong Kong for stays up to 90 days. Every airline has its own check-in policy. Korean Air permits online check-in between 48 hours and one hour before scheduled departure. Airport kiosk check-in is available the day of departure up to one hour before flight time.

Seoul is one hour ahead of Hong Kong. So, when it is 2 p.m. in Hong Kong, it is 3 p.m. in Seoul. The Airport Express train takes travellers from the airport to Hong Kong city centre in 24 minutes. The trains leave every 10 minutes. The cost is HK$100 (CA$17). July is Hong Kong's hottest month, with an average temperature of 29 degrees Celsius. January, with an average of 16 degrees Celsius, is the coldest month. August has the highest average daily sunshine. That month also averages 281 mm of rain. A meal costs about HK$35 (CA$6) in a fast-food restaurant and HK$50 (CA$9) in an inexpensive restaurant. The price for a three-course meal in a midrange restaurant is HK$180 (CA$31).
