Finding cheap flights from Taipei to Tokyo: Frequently asked questions
Flying Out of Taipei
Taipei is the capital of the Republic of China, which is more commonly known as Taiwan. From here, many daily flights provide direct service to Tokyo. The route is served by major international airlines like Cathay Pacific and ANA, as well as regional budget airlines.
Most flights from Taipei to Tokyo leave from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), which locals often refer to by its previous name: Chiang Kai Shek Airport. A new MRT line connects the city center and the airport, and some airlines now offer a service where you can check in for flights and even check your bags at the Taipei Main railway station before heading to the airport for your flight to Tokyo. Your flight may depart from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, so check the screens in the airport. Both terminals are modern, and offer all of the amenities that travelers would expect.
Occasionally, flights from Taipei to Tokyo will depart from Songshan Airport (TSA), which is close to the city center. Take the brown metro line from Taipei Main railway station to reach the airport in about fifteen minutes. Consider grabbing a bite to eat in central Taipei before flying out of Songshan Airport, as the dining options in the international departures area are limited.
Passengers should ensure they have a valid Canadian passport when flying out of Taipei and into Tokyo.
Landing in Tokyo
Flights from Taipei to Tokyo use both of Tokyo's two main international airports: Tokyo Narita Airport (NAR) and Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND). At both airports, you will pass through Japanese immigration control and customs before exiting to the main arrivals area, where you will find amenities like ATMs, currency exchange offices and car rental services. Make sure you pick up some yen at the airport, as Canadian dollars and New Taiwan dollars are not accepted in Japan.
Both airports offer a variety of ground transportation options that take travelers into Tokyo's city center. Generally, trains are the fastest option, but slower airport shuttle buses have more room for luggage storage. For travelers on a budget, local buses offer the most affordable connections. Of course, you can also hire a private taxi or rent your own car.
No matter what method of transportation you choose, drop off your bags at your hotel before beginning to explore Tokyo's famous cherry blossoms and quirky hidden districts.
