Departing from Toronto
Canadians traveling from Toronto to Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) will depart from Toronto's Pearson International Airport (YYZ), which is located about twenty-five kilometers west of downtown Toronto. Travelers can arrive at the airport by car, taxi, city bus or Union Pearson Express train and should allow about forty-five minutes for the journey from the city center to the airport.
Upon arrival at Toronto International Airport, travelers heading to Venice Marco Polo Airport will check in with one of the three airlines offering direct flights from Toronto to Venice. It is recommended that passengers arrive at least three hours before their international flight is scheduled to take off. Flights to Venice with Air Canada and Lufthansa depart from Terminal 1 while Air Transat flights depart from Terminal 3. Both terminals have comfortable private lounges for departing passengers along with duty-free shopping, an excellent selection of restaurants, and currency exchange offices where you can swap any last Canadian dollars for euros.
Arriving in Venice
Venice Marco Polo Airport is actually located in Mestre, a land-based city situated about ten kilometers north of Venice. Upon arrival at the airport, Canadian travelers will need to show their passports at immigration and then proceed to the baggage claim area to pick up their checked luggage and pass through customs. In the public arrivals area, travelers will find ATMs, a bank, more currency exchange offices and car rental providers.
Travelers continuing onward to central Venice can choose between a range of transportation options. The most convenient (and most evocative) is to use the public water bus service that connects the airport with Piazza San Marco and the surrounding attractions. To reach the water bus station, head left through the arrivals hall to the covered walkway and follow the path for about seven minutes. There is also a shuttle bus to Piazzale Roma and private taxis that can take you anywhere nearby.
