What to See and Do in Taipei Taiwan

Taipei, Taiwan, combines its historic past with the commercial and technological wonders of the modern world. Visit the Lungshan Temple of Manka, built in the 1700s, for a look at the country's Buddhist culture. Fast-forward a few centuries and explore the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall which pays tribute to the former President of the Republic of China. The National Palace Museum, opened in 1965, holds more than half-a-million Chinese artifacts and pieces of art. Turn your sights to the modern world when you head to the financial and shopping district to view Taipei 101. Up until 2004, this was the tallest building in the world. The pagoda-like building has 101 floors, is LEED certified for its environmental design and built to withstand the strongest earthquakes and typhoons. If you feel the need for some late-night food and a bit of shopping, head to the Shilin Night Market.
