Inside: Guangzhou International Airport
Guangzhou International Airport is a recently constructed facility and one of the busiest airports in China. The airport consists of a single terminal that is divided into a Main Terminal, an Area A, and an Area B. All flights are checked in at the Main Terminal, while boarding takes place in Areas A and B. Flights to Beijing operate out of both areas of the airport, so where you will have to head to depends on your particular flight. Most retail and dining options are located in the Main Terminal.
Landing in Beijing
Beijing is served by two airports, Beijing Capital International Airport and Beijing Nanyuan Airport. Beijing Capital is by far the larger airport and most flights from Guangzhou arrive here. The only flights from Guangzhou that arrive at Beijing Nanyuan are those operated by China United Airlines. The best way to get from Beijing Nanyuan Airport to the city centre is via taxi, with the ride taking about 30 minutes. At Beijing Capital International Airport you have far more options for getting into the city itself. The Airport Express train runs from Terminals 2 and 3 and runs to Dongzhimen Station, where you can catch Lines 2 and 13 of the subway. Buses, limousines, and taxis are also readily available. If driving in Beijing is something you are comfortable with then you may want to consider renting a car for the duration of your stay.
Beijing is one of the world's great cities and has enough attractions and interesting sites to keep any visitor occupied for weeks. Tiananmen Square is the heart of the city. This massive square, the largest of its kind in the world, is surrounded by a wealth of things to see and do, including the Museum of the Chinese Revolution, the Monument to the People's Martyrs, the Great Hall of the People, Qianmen Gate, and Chairman Mao's Mausoleum. On the north side of the square you will find the Forbidden City, the former home of China's Emperors. The Temple of Heaven is another famous symbol of Beijing.
