Inside: Bogota El Dorado International Airport
Bogota El Dorado International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world and, after recent renovations, is now widely recognized as one of the best airports in Latin America. It has a huge number of stores and restaurants, including jewellery, cosmetic, luggage, and clothing stores. There are also quite a few cafes featuring Colombian coffees. Avianca passengers can also take advantage of the airline's VIP lounge in the domestic departures area.
Check-In: Bogota El Dorado International Airport
All flights to Cartagena leave from the domestic area of Terminal 1. Security checks at Bogota El Dorado are frequent and you should expect delays when trying to reach your gate. Arrive at least two hours before your scheduled departure time. While this is a domestic flight, having your passport on hand will make check-in and security checks go much more quickly and efficiently.
What to Expect When Landing at Cartagena
Cartagena Airport is the largest airport on Colombia's Caribbean coast and is popular for tourists both from abroad and within Colombia looking for sun, history, and beaches. The airport is a bit dated but easy to navigate. It can get crowded during the high season, however. To get to Cartagena itself you will either have to arrange for your hotel to pick you up or take a taxi. Be sure to negotiate a price with the taxi driver before you get in the vehicle as it is common for drivers to try to overcharge visitors. You can also rent a car while you're in Cartagena so long as you're comfortable with driving the city's narrow streets and dealing with the sometimes chaotic Colombian traffic. As a major tourist destination Cartagena is packed with hotels and you can use Skyscanner to help you find a great room at the right price.
