Though Osaka, Japan does not have any airports directly within its borders, there are two airports located nearby: Kansai International Airport (KIX) and Osaka Itami Airport (ITM). The first airport, Kansai Airport, is located on a man-made island in Osaka Bay. The airport is a hub for Peach, a low-cost carrier which flies direct from Osaka to Okinawa Naha. Peach uses KIX's single-story Terminal 2. Four other airlines also fly this route: All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, Japan Transocean Air and Jetstar Japan. These airlines all operate out of KIX's Terminal 1.

Itami Airport, better known as Osaka International Airport, serves three major nearby cities: Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe. Despite the name, Osaka International Airport is a purely domestic airport. ITM to Okinawa Naha Airport is the airport's second-busiest flight route. All Nippon Airways, Japan's largest airline, flies this route often. Japan Airlines also flies this route frequently. All Nippon uses the South Terminal and Japan Airlines uses the North Terminal. The two terminals are connected by a central block which includes a large shopping and dining area.

Since both airports offer direct flights from Osaka to Okinawa Naha Airport, the airport you choose is really up to personal preference. You will need to present your valid Canadian passport to board a flight from Osaka to Okinawa Naha. Canadian tourists can visit and travel throughout Japan for up to 90 days without a visa.

Okinawa Naha Airport Information

Okinawa Naha Airport (OKA), also known as Naha Airport or Okinawa Island Airport, is located approximately 4 km from central Naha. The airport consists of one terminal with four floors. The first floor is designated as the arrivals lobby where you can claim your baggage and find transportation.

Outside of arrivals, you will have access to short distance and long distance taxis. You can also call for a limousine bus if you're travelling in a large group. The monorail system has a stop at Naha Airport. It will cost approximately $3 CAD per person to board and stops all around the city. There are also a few different public transport bus stops in the area. There are four companies on site for your car rental needs.

What to Expect in Naha

Osaka and Naha are both within the same time zone, so you will not experience any jet lag. The flight between the two cities is relatively short. The weather in the two cities is also quite similar. Both experience hot and humid summers, mild winters and high levels of rainfall year round. The wettest months in Naha are August and September.

As Osaka is one of Japan's most expensive cities, you will find the prices in Naha to be much lower comparatively. This means you'll be able to experience more of Japan's amazing food and the great sights Naha has to offer, like the beautiful Shuri Castle.
