There are three airports in London that offer direct service to Madrid:

  • London Heathrow Airport (LHR) - More than a dozen daily flights from London Heathrow Airport to Madrid are provided by British Airways. Flights from London Heathrow Airport to Madrid usually depart from Terminal 5, which passengers can access via a complimentary trip on the Heathrow Express train from the main terminal building.
  • London Gatwick Airport (LGW) - Iberia Express and easyJet offer numerous daily flights to Madrid from the north and south terminals at London Gatwick Airport. The Gatwick Express train runs from London's Victoria Station to the Gatwick Airport station near the south terminal, and travelers can continue on the automated peoplemover system to reach the north terminal.
  • London Stansted Airport (STN) - Ryanair provides several flights each day from London Stansted Airport to Madrid. When you book your ticket, you may have the option of also purchasing a discounted ticket on the Stansted Express train that connects London's Liverpool Street station with this airport.

Arriving in Madrid

Flights from London to Madrid Airport (MAD) land at all four of Madrid Airport's terminals. Terminal 1, 2 and 3 are within comfortable walking distance of one another, but Terminal 4 is four kilometers away and is linked to the main terminal buildings with a complimentary shuttle bus. An automated peoplemover system connects travelers whose flights arrive at Terminal 4S, a satellite of Terminal 4.

Upon arrival in Madrid, travelers will need to show a valid Canadian passport at Spanish immigration. Then, you will claim your baggage and pass through Spanish customs. You will now be in the Schengen Area, and can travel onwards to twenty-five other countries without needing to pass through further border controls.

Regular shuttle buses and the Madrid metro system connect all four Madrid Airport terminals with the city center. Other transportation options include hiring a taxi or renting a car at the airport.
