Inside: Berlin Airport

Please note that, for the time being, most flights from Berlin to Munich leave from Berlin Tegel Airport. However, a new international airport, Berlin Brandenburg Airport, is currently under construction and due for completion in 2018 or 2019, leaving the future of Berlin Tegel uncertain. When leaving from Berlin Tegel to fly to Munich the terminal you use will use depends on your airline. Lufthansa operates out of Terminal A, which is the airport's main terminal building. The hexagonal shape of Terminal A is a unique feature of Berlin Tegel and it makes getting from check-in to your gate extremely quick. There are plenty of shops and restaurants in Terminal A and Lufthansa also has its own lounge here. Air Berlin, which is a low-cost carrier, operates out of the adjacent Terminal C, which was built as a temporary building designed to alleviate overcapacity problems at the main terminal. As such, shops and restaurants there are a bit more limited. As a domestic route, carrying a passport is not required, although having some form of government-issued I.D. is necessary in order to board.

Landing in Munich

Munich Airport is one of the world's busiest airports and has won numerous accolades for its design and efficiency. If you are flying with Lufthansa then you will land at Terminal 2, which is the newer terminal at the airport and designed around a convenient central plaza with lots of shops and restaurants. Air Berlin and (for the time being) Transavia, both land at Terminal 1. Terminal 1 and 2 are connected by the Munich Airport Centre, which is a shopping, dining, and recreation area. The Munich Airport Centre is where you will find the S-Bahn (suburban railway) station, which is the cheapest option for getting to the city centre. It takes about 45 minutes. The Airport Centre also hosts the airport's many rental car agencies where you can rent a car and enjoy Munich and Bavaria at your own pace. There are also hotels on the airport grounds and, of course, throughout Munich.
