The Nine Arch Bridge between Ella and Demodara Station is one of the engineering marvels of the early 20th century. Take a hike and enjoy its rampant history!

Ella is a little touristy village with stunning views. I usually don't fall for these backpacker towns, but I loved Ella. There is budget accommodation, decent enough food, and plenty of walks in the surrounding countryside.

Situated at around 1000 meters in the hill country of central Sri Lanka, little, touristy Ella is a delight. With lovely tea plantations, excellent rice-and-curry dishes (known as some of the best in the country), and a number of nice short hikes in the vicinity, it's a nice place to spend a few days relaxing and taking in the views. Amenities are good, with some fine and inexpensive guesthouses and wifi available basically everywhere. A rewarding and pretty little place with very little hassle.

It's a beautiful place to hang out. The town is backpacker friendly. Has a number of guesthouses (some have great view of the Ella rock), cafes, and Ayruvedic treatment places. It takes 9 hours by train from Colombo. Worth stop for a few days.
