Tomar, which is home to the UNESCO listed Convento do Cristo, is a bustling market town with a variety of supermarkets, shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, banks, health centres, hospitals, schools, bus and train station and university. It is also only a short drive from Castelo do Bode Lake, which is popular for all kinds of water sport activities

Relaxed and yet vibrant, this town is a charm to visit. With three bridges across the Rio Nabao, lots of historic monuments ranging from the Knights Templar Castle and Convent through to the Matchstick Museum there is lots to see and do. Try and see the town though in full festival flow when the Festa dos Tabuleiros is on (once every four years). The next one is due to take place in July 2015.
