Cheap Flights to Solomon Islands

Made up of 6 big islands and more than 900 smaller ones, the Solomon Islands is a tropical nation in Oceania. Historically, these islands were prized by seafaring tradesmen for their convenient location in the South Pacific Ocean, between the Coral Sea and the Solomon Sea. Believed to have been populated for thousands of years, the Solomon Islands were first visited by Europeans in 1568, when Spain's explorer Álvaro de Mendaña landed there with his ship's crew. Now, this sunny archipelago is a destination for adventurous tourists, attracted by its diverse nature, scenic beaches and tumbling waterfalls.

Airports in Solomon Islands

Honiara International Airport

The Solomon Islands' biggest and only international airport is Honiara International Airport (HIR), which is situated on Guadalcanal Island, 8 km from the capital city of Honiara. Opened in 1969, this small airport hosts flights from Australia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Vanuatu, and domestic destinations in the Solomon Islands. To reach your hotel from HIR, it's actually recommended that you take a boat. Boating is the most popular form of public transportation on the islands. While this method isn't necessary very quick, the routes are beautifully scenic, so just sit back and get used to moving at a more relaxed pace. Nothing in the Solomon Islands happens in a rush.

Departing from Honiara International Airport, Solomon Airlines offers flights to regional airports in Afutara, Arona, Atoifi, Auki, Bellona, Fera, Gizo, Jajao, Kagau, Kirakira, Marau, Ramata, Seghe, and Suavanao. These airports tend to be tiny and generally unremarkable. Some also only offer flights to Honiara, forgoing other domestic destinations entirely.
