Cheap Flights to Milan

With three busy international airports, Milan is one of the easiest European cities to reach from Canada.  This is good news for Canadian travelers who want to see some of the most famous works of Renaissance art, as Milan's many museums and churches are overflowing with masterpieces by artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Sandro Botticelli.  Unlike some other Italian cities, though, Milan has never become crowded with tourists and has always maintained its sense of Italian authenticity.

Best Time to Visit Milan

High season in Milan runs from May to October.  During these months the sky is clear, temperatures are comfortable and rain is infrequent.  One exception to this rule, however, is the month of August, when many independent businesses close shop so that their staff can enjoy a holiday of their own.   Milan Fashion Week happens annually in February and September; it may be difficult to book a hotel room during these times, and you may find some attractions closed to accommodate private events.  To find the cheapest airfares to Milan, look for flights departing in the early fall and use Skyscanner's price alert to receive an instant notification when prices drop.

Airlines That Fly to Milan

Air Canada is the only airline currently offering non-stop service between Canada and Milan.  However, many other airlines make the journey with only one connection at a European airport.  Skyscanner can help you find flights from Canada to Milan with short connections, including flights through the Frankfurt Airport with Lufthansa and flights through London's Heathrow Airport with British Airways.

Most flights to Milan will land at Milan Malpensa Airport, the city's most important hub for flights on the major international carriers.  From Milan Malpensa Airport's Terminal 1, express trains run to the city center every fifteen minutes.  From Terminal 2, it is preferable to take one of the many express buses that bypass Terminal 1 and go straight downtown.  If you are arriving from a nearby European destination, or traveling on a budget or charter airline, your flight might arrive at Milan Linate Airport or Orio al Serio (Bergamo) Airport.  Both airports have express bus service and reliable taxis that can take you to central Milan.

What to See and Do in Milan

Many of Milan's best attractions are clustered within the city's historic center.  Look for a hotel that is close to the Duomo, then lace up your running shoes for a climb up the cathedral's 150 stairs for breathtaking views of the city.  Cross the piazza for some window shopping at the glass-domed Galleria Vittorio Emanuele shopping arcade, and then head to one of the city's famous art galleries, like Pinacoteca di Brera or Museo de Novecento.  If you want to see Leonardo da Vinci's most impressive fresco, book your tickets to see The Last Supper well in advance.

Milan is also a wonderful starting point for day trips around Northern Italy.  Renting a car is easy, and then it's only a short trip to Lake Como (where George Clooney has a private villa) and Turin (where you'll find a spectacular Cinema Museum).
