Discover Chandigarh

Chandigarh is a city unlike anywhere else in India or the world. Having been built in the 1950s, Chandigarh is today the capital of both Punjab and Haryana provinces in the north of India. As India's first planned city, Chandigarh lacks the sort of chaos and sensory overload that one expects from an Indian city, but it is a unique feast for fans of modernist architecture, especially of the work of Le Corbusier. With Skyscanner's Whole Month search function you can find the cheapest flights to Chandigarh Airport from anywhere in the world.

Best Time to Book a Flight to Chandigarh

Like much of northern India, Chandigarh gets uncomfortably hot during the summer months. Between April and July temperatures are regularly in the mid to high 30s. July and August are also the peak of monsoon season when extremely heavy rains can dump large amounts of water in the span of a few hours. However, even during monsoon season there are still plenty of sunny days. During the rest of the year, from September to March, temperatures are much more pleasant and the weather tends to be very dry, making it an ideal time to visit.

What to Expect at the Airport

Chandigarh Airport features a brand new terminal that was opened in 2015. The new terminal, while small, is extremely clean,  modern, and easy to use. It is known for being one of the most eco-friendly airport terminals in India. To get to the city itself, there is a pre-paid taxi booth outside of the arrivals terminal. Once you pay for your taxi at the booth, you present your ticket to a taxi driver,  which will help keep you from getting overcharged. Alternatively, you can also rent a car at the arrivals hall. Unlike many other Indian cities, Chandigarh is generally an easy place to drive in.

What to See and Do in Chandigarh

Chandigarh is a truly unique city, having been designed by legendary French modernist architect Le Corbusier in the 1950s. As a result, it hosts a collection of some of the finest modernist buildings and sculptures on the planet, which resulted in its Capitol Complex recently being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also one of the safest cities in India and walking along its streets and broad plazas is the best way to experience it. Due to security restrictions, you will need to visit the Tourist Bureau first in order to get permission to enter the Capitol Complex. The High Court building and Open Hand structure are two sites in the Capitol Complex not to be missed. There are quite a few hotels in Chandigarh and Skyscanner can help you find a room at a great price.
