What to Expect When Arriving at Milan Malpensa Airport
Nestled by the Ticino River, Northern Italy's Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) is located 49 km to the northwest of Downtown Milan. It's an expansive, two-terminal airport, overflowing with designer boutiques and wonderful dining outlets. The terminals are known as Terminal 1 and 2. Terminal 1 is the newer, larger terminal, which currently handles the vast majority of MXP's flights, both international and domestic. As of 2017, easyJet is the only airline presently using Terminal 2.
Reaching city centre from the airport can be expensive--if you don't know what you're doing. Taxis, for instance, cost a lofty € 90 fixed rate. Travellers are advised to take a train or a bus into town. The Malpensa Express train leaves every 30 minutes from both Terminals, and takes about half an hour to reach downtown. Shuttle buses, Malpensa Shuttle and Malpensa Bus Express, depart on a regular schedule too, but their journeys into Milan can take over 60 minutes.
