Mendoza Airport (MDZ) is a medium-sized airport in the province of Mendoza in Argentina. The airport is named for the famous politician, Governor Francisco Gabrielli International Airport, and is more commonly known as El Plumerillo International Airport. The province is centrally located and shares a border with Chile, which is marked by the dramatic Andes Mountain range. The region has a long history that goes back more than 13,000 years, and since the turn of the 20th century the city has grown considerably thanks to the rich agricultural industry in the river lowlands. The demand for organic, boutique, and artisan agricultural products has led a surge of ecotourism and agritourism throughout the area in the 21st century.

Airlines that fly to Mendoza Airport

There are only a handful of airlines that operate out of Mendoza airport, and only a few of these service international destinations directly. A military air base also takes up a portion of this airport, which means about half of the traffic at MDZ is neither commercial nor civilian.

• Aerolíneas Argentinas, the nation’s flagship carrier, flies from Toronto to Mendoza with stops in either Panama or Buenos Aires. You can also fly this airline to cities in other Argentine provinces.
• LATAM, the South American airlines group, has three airlines here. They fly to Chile and other points throughout the country.
• Gol Linhas Aéreas, based on Brazil, flies to São Paulo throughout the year and to Rio de Janeiro seasonally.

For longer flights to other points around the globe and the North American continent, it’s necessary to connect with a bigger airlines in Buenos Aires. International flights, and even most domestic ones, first stop in EZE in Buenos Aires before continuing on to Mendoza

Things to See and Do in Mendoza

• Viticulture and Apiculture
. In short, grapes and bees. This is where most of Argentina's wine comes from and the dry climate is also favorable for apiaries and honey production. Tourists interested in agriculture and ecotourism can experience both of these fascinating industries as part of their visit.
• Las Leñas
. A large ski resort in the Andes Mountains, this location is noted for it’s deep, soft powder and opportunities for extreme skiing out of bounds. The resort welcomes skiers and snowboarders of all levels of ability and has a ski school that can accommodate any age group.
• Christ the Redeemer of the Andes. This dramatic statue stands at almost 4000 feet above sea level in the Andes Mountains, and was erected as a symbol of eternal peace between Argentina and Chile. The statue was made from reclaimed cannons and other weapons of war after the two countries resolved their problems regarding the disputed border.
• General San Martin Park. References to this famous general who led the Argentine War of Independence are scattered throughout town, and this park also has a lake named in the general’s honor. The entire green space takes up almost a thousand acres and contains 34 sculptures, a rose garden, and a memorial to the Army of the Andes.
