Best Time to Book a Flight to Mendoza, Argentina

Mendoza is a great place to visit to escape the cold Canadian winter. Summertime hits Argentina in January and February, so if you want the heat, you should visit then. Remember to pack sunscreen, a hat, and a good pair of sunglasses - the sun is strong in the southern hemisphere! If you want to see Mendoza in all of its glory, we suggest visiting in the spring (October and November) or fall (March and April) instead. That's when the weather is perfect for outdoor adventures, and you can visit the wineries when the grapes are in full bloom or being harvested.

Airlines that Fly to Mendoza Airport

MDZ offers flights through a wide variety of airlines, including Aerolíneas Argentinas, Copa Airlines, LATAM Airlines Group, and more.

Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from Canada to Argentina. When departing from Canada, you'll likely have to transfer through the United States or Mexico to Santiago (SCL) or Buenos Aries (EZE) before finally landing in Mendoza. Luckily, most major Canadian airports fly directly to Los Angeles (JFK), so you shouldn't need to transfer more than twice.

What to Expect When Arriving at Mendoza Airport

Mendoza Airport is conveniently located about 11km from downtown Mendoza. You can rent a car at the airport if you're willing to brave Argentinian traffic, or simply hire a taxi to take you to your hotel for around $15. By taxi, it takes 20-30 minutes to reach downtown Mendoza, depending on traffic. There is also a bus at the airport that can take you downtown in an hour. It comes every 30 minutes, but there isn't a lot of room for luggage, and you'll likely have to transfer buses more than once.

Canadians can visit Argentina for up to three months without requiring a visitor visa. Your passport must be valid for at least as long as you plan on staying in Argentina, and preferably for about six months past that date.

Mendoza Airport Facilities

MDZ is a modern facility with both an international and a domestic terminal, as well as four gates. Wi-fi is free to all passengers, and there are plenty of charging stations available for your devices. There are three restaurants inside the airport, as well as a premium lounge that you can enter with a membership, so there are plenty of places to relax. There is a National Bank in the International Hall which offers currency exchange services.

We suggest arriving at the airport at least three hours before any international departure, so you have enough time to check in, move through security, and find your gate before your flight.

What to See and Do in Mendoza

Mendoza is known worldwide for the quality of its wines, particularly Malbecs. A trip to this area wouldn't be complete without visiting at least one winery while you're here. Head to Parque San Martin for a great place to have a picnic with a spectacular view of the surrounding Andes mountain range, or take a stroll through Central Park to people-watch. Check out the Mendoza Museum of Modern Art or Plaza Espana if you want to enjoy some amazing architecture and take in the artsy vibe of the city.

There are also a wide variety of adventure tours available in the area, including everything from paragliding to horse riding. Be sure to check in on some of the local tour companies - you're sure to find something that interests you.
