Discover Havana
A traveler to all parts and a newcomer to none, wrote Cuban poet José Martín as his country teetered on the brink of revolution. He was writing about freedom as much as travel, and today his vision is realized in the eclectic and bustling Havana International Airport. That makes it even more appropriate that the airport also bears his name, José Martí International Airport (HAV).
Cheap flights to José Martí International Airport (HAV)
Havana is a popular Caribbean destination, and prices are higher for those seeking a winter getaway during the holiday season. You can take advantage of deals with both Air Canada and Sunwing at the right time of the year, as they often have extra flights and more choices when it comes to destinations and connections. This is often the best way to book the cheapest flight.
Best time to book a flight to Havana
Fly outside of holiday times to get good deals, since Cuba is one of those "snowbird" destinations that gets more popular in the wintertime. The weather also tends to be drier in the winter months, but the temperature doesn't fluctuate very much throughout the year. If you don't mind some humidity, book during the quieter summer season for better prices on virtually everything.
Airlines that fly to José Martí International Airport (HAV)
Air Canada Rouge, Sunwing, and Air Transat all fly to Cuba from major airports in Canada seasonally, and only Air Canada offers flights all year round. If you don't mind connecting with an American, Mexican, or Caribbean airline, it's fairly easy and reasonably cheap to get to Havana or any other point in Cuba.
What to expect when arriving at José Martí International Airport (HAV)
There are five terminals at this international transit point that move millions of passengers between virtually all points in North and South America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa. Terminal 1 is for local and regional traffic, Terminal 2 is where most flights to and from the United States can be found, and Terminal 3 is where the international airlines are located. Terminal 4 handles freight, and the final terminal serves as the hub for Cubana de Aviación and Aerogaviota.
Airport Facilities
All the terminals, with the exception of Terminal 4, have similar amenities when it comes to shopping and dining along with other 24-hour money exchange and internet service. Terminal 3 has two VIP lounges that include office equipment, and Terminal 2 is the most modern and is where you can find the airline ticket counters.
The entire airport is fully wheelchair accessible with both ramps and elevators. Car rentals are only available from local vendors that are often located in hotel lobbies, so it's better to arrange for transportation in advance of your arrival.
