Airline points can help you score free flights, upgrades and hotel stays – so it’s important to understand how to collect them while you’re searching the best flight deals through Skyscanner. From searching to booking we’re unpacking everything you need to know about securing amazing prices and more Air Canada points.
Definitely not! After using Skyscanner to find your perfect flight deal across Canada and beyond, you can choose which one of our trusted travel partners you’d like to book through, at no extra cost to you.

So if you want to redeem your Aeroplan points during the flight booking process on Skyscanner, simply click on Air Canada after selecting your preferred flight. You’ll then be rerouted to Air Canada’s official website where you can put in your Aeroplan card and use your points to pay for the flight or earn points as normal.
Not at all. Because you are rerouted, Skyscanner doesn’t take any fees and you won’t pay more if you look up the flight deals with us.
In fact, we search billions of prices from all your favourite travel sites (and the ones you didn’t know about), so you can feel sure you’ve found the lowest flight prices.

On Air Canada’s airline loyalty program members can collect points by making purchases.
These purchases can include booking flights on the airline or one of their partner airlines, as well as booking hotels and car rentals. In some cases, points can be collected when buying products from major retail partners. These points can then be converted into rewards, such as hotel vouchers, gift cards, car hire, and airline rewards.
Airline rewards can then be used to buy flights, get upgrades, and even get you exclusive access to members-only fares. Depending on your points and the terms of the loyalty program, the total price of the flight will be reduced, or free, in some cases.
The Air Canada rewards program has officially been Aeroplan since November 8, 2020, after it was acquired by the flag carrier in January 2019.
With over 5 million members, Aeroplan is still one of Canada’s biggest loyalty rewards programs, helping Canadians collect rewards to redeem for travel from coast to coast and across the globe.
You can collect Aeroplan points through various channels, such as booking flights with Air Canada and partner airlines, purchasing consumer goods online and in-store, and through certain credit cards. These points can be redeemed for travel in Canada and international – wherever Air Canada and their partner airlines fly. Collecting more points means that you can save up for more future adventures.
It’s personal to you, but generally yes.
Earning and redeeming points is easy, and as of 2023, the Aeroplan rewards program has over 200 retail partners. This means swiping your Aeroplan card is a really efficient and simple way to collect points from goods you’d be purchasing anyway.
After six months, you might have enough to cover the cost of a flight to San Diego, Cancun, Cartagena, maybe even Cyprus. So, what’s your latest dream destination?
Easy! With Aeroplan, members can earn points by making purchases through any of the program’s airline or retail partners or through one of the official Aeroplan credit cards.
You can also earn points by searching and booking flights with Skyscanner, as we direct you straight through to the airlines booking site, where you can accrue points as normal.
Looking to book your dream trip? If you’ve collected enough Aeroplan points over the past year or so, there are a few ways to make the most of the rewards and redeem those points for travel.
Aeroplan has a Points Predictor Tool that makes it easy to get an estimate on how many points you’ll need to cover the cost of a flight on Air Canada or one of its partner airlines. There are certain things you’ll have to take into account though, such as the flight class, which airline you plan on flying with, and the timing of the flight (high season flight tickets are typically more expensive).
Here’s a breakdown of how many Aeroplan points you’ll need to cover the basic cost of a one-way flight from Toronto to Paris.
| Flight class/airline | Aeroplan points needed |
| Economy Air Canada Partner airlines | 35,000-60,000 35,000 |
| Premium Economy Air Canada | 50,000-80,000 |
| Business Class Air Canada Partner airlines | 60,000-160,000 60,000 |
| First Class Air Canada Partner airlines | 90,000-180,000 90,000 |
Partner airlines: Note that there is limited seating on partner airlines if you book using your Aeroplan points, so always check beforehand. There is also a one-time Partner Booking Fee of $39 CAD that applies, which can paid for using your points.
Extras: The points listed above cover the base fare, and any third-party fees like airline fees and taxes can also be covered using your points.
The cost of an upgrade using your Aeroplan points depends on the type of flight (where you’re travelling to), the flight class, and the travel date.
If you’re an Elite Member, you’re eligible for a discount on how many points it takes for an upgrade.
Aeroplan members can easily request an upgrade for their flight by logging into their Aeroplan account, choose the flight they want to upgrade, and then click “use your miles” to start the process of redeeming your points to buy a flight upgrade.
They do!
Aeroplan points aren’t limited to just Air Canada. United is one of Air Canada’s 51 Partner Airlines, so Aeroplan members can use their points to redeem flights for travel on United Airlines.
At the time of writing, Air Canada’s four featured partners are:
• United
• Lufthansa
• Emirates
• PAL Airlines
The Aeroplan Partner Airlines with Air Canada (51 in total) cover travel on all continents across the globe, except for Antarctica. Its other 47 airline and codeshare partners include Aer Lingus, Aegean Airlines, Asiana Airlines, TAP Air Portugal, Turkish Airlines, and more.
Aeroplan points can be redeemed for travel wherever Air Canada or any of its partner airlines flies.
So, it is possible to redeem your hard-earned points for flights as nearby as Ottawa or Vancouver and as far away as Sydney, Australia.
The new Aeroplan points program calculates the flight cost by zones, with the cheapest being domestic and North American destinations and the more expensive in South America and the Pacific.
According to Air Canada’s latest guidelines in 2023, your Aeroplan points do not expire as long as you keep your account active.
You can keep your account active by using your member card to make purchases or by redeeming your points for travel. After 18 months of inactivity from your account, your points will expire.
They certainly are, and with Aeroplan’s Family Sharing Plan, members can transfer their points for free.
If you’re not a part of the plan, members can transfer their points for a fee.
Now that you know how to still collect those valuable points while searching incredible deals through Skyscanner, it’s time to get going!
