Canadians can fly directly to Tokyo's Haneda Airport (HND) from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) through All Nippon Airways or Air Canada. There is at least one flight leaving each day. You should also consider checking for flights to Tokyo's Narita airport instead for even more options! Departing from Vancouver International Airport

To get to the airport, drive across Arthur Liang Bride to Grant McConahie Way or ride the SkyTrain from downtown Vancouver to the airport for less than $10. There are several long-term parking options at YVR:

• Gateway Valet: curbside assistance and valet parking for $206/week
• Parkade: covered parking just outside the arrivals and departures terminals for $179/week
• Value Lot: open air parking within walking distance of the terminal for $144/week
• JetSet Parking: open area parking that offers free shuttle services to the airport every 15 minutes for $96/week

Vancouver International Airport is a beautiful modern airport with a huge variety of shops, restaurants, lounges, art exhibits, and free wi-fi to keep you entertained while you wait for your flight. 

Arriving at Tokyo Haneda Airport

After arriving in Tokyo, follow the signs to collect your bags and move through Japanese Customs. Make sure you've filled out your declaration card correctly to avoid delays. To get to your hotel, take a taxi or hop on one of Japan's world-renowned train systems. A taxi can cost anywhere between $50 and $125 CAD, while the trains are much better suited to budget travel at only $6 per ride. You can also rent a car, but Tokyo's traffic is not for the faint of heart!  

Practical Information

Canadians can travel to Japan for up to 90 days without a visa, as long as your passport is valid for at least 6 months and you have proof of a return ticket. Plan on arriving at least 3 hours before your international departure to give yourself enough time to check in and make your way to the gate. This is a long-haul flight, so we suggest wearing comfortable clothing and bringing along something to keep you entertained on the plane.
