Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from Toronto to the capital city of Ecuador, Quito. However, you can still fly there through United, American Airlines, Aeromexico, and more, as long as you don't mind a short layover. Most flights will stop in Mexico City (MEX), Miami (MIA), Atlanta (ATL), or Houston (IAH). Departing from Toronto

Most flights international flights out of Toronto leave from Pearson International Airport (YYZ), which is a modern airport with many amenities for you to enjoy. Free wi-fi is available, as well as plenty of shops, restaurants, and lounges to explore while you wait for your flight. There is also an extensive collection of permanent and visiting art exhibitions. There are even two full dinosaur skeletons in Terminal 1 courtesy of the Royal Ontario Museum! Long-term parking is available in the Value Park Lot for $20/day or $95/week, with a free train link that can take you to the terminal in about 10 minutes.

Arriving in Quito

After landing in Quito, follow the signs to collect your bags and make your way through Ecuadorian customs. This airport is the busiest in South America, and can feel quite chaotic, so be sure to pay attention to signage to make sure you're heading in the right direction. After exiting the airport, double-check the address for your hotel, then take one of these transportation options:

• Taxi ($40, 1-2 hours depending on traffic): Taxi fares are regulated in Ecuador, but you should still negotiate a price before entering the cab. Make sure you're using an authorized taxi, which will be equipped with a security camera to prevent crime. 
• Airport Shuttle ($10 to downtown): There is an airport shuttle service available at the airport which will take you to the "old airport", which is actually a park in downtown Quito now. From there, you can take a cab or bus to reach your hotel.
• Bus ($2.50, 35 minutes to downtown): Take the green bus to Rio Coco bus station, where you can easily transfer to another bus line or catch a cab to reach your hotel. Keep an eye on your luggage if you take this route, as petty crime like theft is fairly common in Quito.
• Rental Car: If you're brave enough to take on the traffic in Quito, you can pick up a rental car at the airport. Most major car rental companies are represented here, but prices are a bit higher than in Canada.

Practical Information 

Canadians can travel to Ecuador for up to 90 days per year without a visa, as long as your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your date of departure. As this is a long-haul flight, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing, grabbing a bite to eat before you leave, and bringing along a book or a pillow on the plane. What to Expect in Quito

Quito is the capital city of Ecuador, constructed on the ruins of an ancient Incan city. The city centre is an eclectic mix of modern, colonial, and aboriginal architectural styles that is sure to impress. Take a hike to the top of the hill at El Panecillo for a gorgeous view of the entire city, or visit the Basilica del Voto de Nacional in the historic city centre, a gothic church with a spectacular clock tower.
