Gijon is one of the most beautiful cities in the north of Spain. It is located in Asturias, one of the most wonderful green paradise of Spain. With awesome nature, a great family life and the greatest food, it is a place you should visit at least once in your life.

I have been to Gijon a few times – to join my husband during some of his business trips. While he was working, I walked around the city, took some Spanish classes, and explored local cafes and shops. My favorite pastime was to go for long walks on promenade that starts in the center of the city along the beach (la playa de San Lorenzo) and goes on for many kilometers. Local families like going for a walk before dinner time (all dressed up) – that seems to be the busiest time on the part of the promenade closer to the center. It’s a great place for people watching. My favorite part of the promenade walk is to reach the place further from the center where stands the most expressive sculpture I’ve ever seen – “Madre del Emigrante” by Ramón Muriedas. I can’t take my eyes away from this woman’s face, her arm stretched towards the sea, her whole body showing pain and suffering... Very moving and emotional image. As you walk further along the promenade you are surrounded by rugged cliffs on one side and natural landscape on the other.
