lovely city on a mountain, the campsite is near the city not well guarded but we had no problem, in the city there are a lot of dealers they want to sell you illigal stuff
Chefchaouen is a popular tourist destination known for its beautiful blue-rinsed adobe buildings. In fact, much of the town is painted in different hues of blue, giving this mountainous city an other-worldly feel.
Blue. Blue. Blue. Very near city an friendlier people than Marrakesh and Fes.
Oooh, so blue... This is such a beautiful town--a bumpy, organic sprawl of interconnected adobe buildings, all washed in various shades of pale blue. (Merchants sell the pigments in bulk there--but what can I paint at home?) The mountains all around are great for hiking, and you can drink the water, as it comes from cold mountain springs. I haven't been in a few years, and I hear there has been some condo development, but it's hard to imagine the place has gotten too glitzy. (Edited to add after 2012 visit: condo developments haven't made a dent at all. People are still sweet and lovely, and the core medina is still thriving. It's definitely touristy, but not oppressively so.)
