Sunwing Airlines Cheap Flights, Flight Deals, and Airline Tickets

Sunwing Airlines is a low-cost Canadian leisure carrier and a subsidiary of Sunwing Travel Group. Sunwing serves destinations in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean with scheduled and charter flights. In Canada, the airline provides increased seasonal and holiday domestic flight service across the country. Headquartered in Etobicoke, an administrative district of Toronto, Sunwing Airlines' main Canadian hubs are the Toronto Pearson International Airport and the Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.

Sunwing Vacation Group decided to start an airline in 2004, after they had just been named as the second-largest tour operator in Ontario. The airline launched its inaugural flight in November of 2005, departing from Toronto. The following November, Sunwing took its first flight from Montreal. By 2008, the airline had already built a network of 29 different destinations. As of today, Sunwing flies to over 70 destinations across the Americas. Since January 2017, Sunwing Airlines has been a part of the TSA's PreCheck program, which allows for expedited screening.

Sunwing Airlines Fleet

Sunwing Airlines flies a relatively small fleet of about 40 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, each with a seat configuration that fits 189 economy passengers. These fuel-efficient planes help Sunwing Airlines keep its costs down and its carbon footprint smaller. The airline has also retrofitted each of its planes with split-scimitar winglets, which further helps to bring down its carbon footprint.

How to Check In, Seating Assignment, Leg Room and Other Fees

While you can always check in for a Sunwing Airlines flight at the airport, web check-in is also available at many of its major domestic and international destinations. If web check-in is available to you, then you may want to take advantage of this added convenience. With Sunwing Airlines web check-in, you can choose your seat and print your boarding pass ahead of time from your home, office, or hotel. Web check-in becomes available four hours before your scheduled departure time until 60 minutes before your scheduled departure time. After you have checked in online, you can skip the airport check-in counter and head directly to security. Any checked baggage can be dropped off at the bag drop counter along the way.

Sunwing Airlines will assign you a seat at the time of check-in but, if you want to select your seat on a Sunwing Airlines flight in advance in order to secure an aisle or window seat, then you can do so by paying an extra $20 fee. Families and groups will likely want to take advantage of advanced seat selection to make sure that they can be seated next to one another during the flight.

Alternatively, for a $50 fee, you can upgrade to Sunwing's Elite Plus Service. Not only does Elite Plus Service include a seat with a generous 35 inches of leg room, but it comes with many additional perks as well. You'll also get to enjoy priority check-in at Canadian airports, priority boarding, priority baggage handling, a free headset for in-flight entertainment (that you can keep!), and an increased baggage allowance. If you want your trip to go as smoothly as possible, then you definitely may want to consider the upgrade to Elite Plus Service.

Baggage Allowance and Fees

Every passenger on a Sunwing Airlines flight is permitted to bring one carry-on item and one personal item into the passenger cabin of the aircraft. Your carry-on item, which will typically be a backpack, a day bag, or a smaller piece of luggage, can weigh up to 5 kg and measure up to 23x40x51 cm in dimensions. A personal item will usually be something such as a purse, a laptop bag, a camera bag, or a messenger bag.

Sunwing Airlines passengers who have booked a Sunwing Vacations package or a Sunwing Vacations cruise package are allowed their first checked bag free and their second checked bag for $36.75. On flights not part of a vacation package, your first checked bag with Sunwing Airlines will cost $26.25 and your second checked bag will cost $36.75. When flying on a regular fare, each checked bag is allowed to weigh up to 23 kg and to have a combined length, width, and height of 158 cm. Elite Plus passengers are allotted up to 30 kg for their first checked bag.

Passengers who need to bring three or more checked bags must pay a fee of $210 per bag. An overweight baggage fee of $78.75 will also be applied to any bag weighing between 23 kg and 32 kg or measuring up to 292 linear cm. Any bag which exceeds 32 kg or 292 linear cm will not be accepted.

Service On Board: In-flight Entertainment and Meals

Get a jump start on relaxing on the way to your vacation destination by tuning into an in-flight movie presented by Sunwing Airlines. While the airline does not have a system for passengers to choose their own movies, they do show family-friendly, first-run movies that just about anyone will enjoy. Sunwing's flights to and from Orlando play Disney movies, as most travellers are on their way to Disneyworld.

A nice little bonus of flying with Sunwing is the welcoming glass of sparkling wine that passengers receive when they board their flight. Non-alcoholic beverages are also provided during flight, as is a buy-on-board menu with selections inspired by Celebrity Chef Lynn Crawford of Food Network Canada. The menu selection includes a variety of snacks and light meals.

Child Fares/Fees, Minor Service guidelines

If you want to take your toddler along for a vacation, then you'll be happy to know that children under two years of age do not require a seat and can fly on the lap of a parent or on the lap of a guardian over the age of 16. You must purchase a seat for a child over two years of age.

Children under five years of age must always be accompanied by another passenger who is at least 16 years or older. Children aged five to 11 are permitted to travel alone aboard a Sunwing Airlines flight when registered under the airline's unaccompanied minor program. Unaccompanied minors are greeted at the check-in counter by a Sunwing Airlines representative, assisted through security, and brought to the cabin crew who will then assist your child on board. The unaccompanied minor program is not available to children over 12 years of age. However, at the time of booking, you can request a Meet and Assist service for a teen aged 12 to 17 who is flying alone.

Pet Policy

While Sunwing Airlines will gladly accept service dogs for an extra handler's fee, the airline does not accept any other animals or pets on board its aircraft.
