Discover Cuzco

Gateway to Machu Picchu and filled with archaeological sites from the Incan Empire, Cuzco is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the Americas and one of the most fascinating on the planet. Colonial architecture jostles for space next to ancient ruins in the historic centre, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Cuzco Airport provides the quickest and most convenient way of getting to this historic city since the mountainous terrain makes driving between Peruvian cities extremely long and occasionally treacherous. The Whole Month search feature can help you find a cheap flight to Cuzco any time of the year.

Best Time to Book a Flight to Cuzco Airport

The best and most popular time to visit Cuzco is during the dry season, which runs roughly from May to October. While temperatures are about the same all year-round, with mild days and cool nights, there is definitely more sun during the dry season. During the wet season rain is usually kept to short downpours. While these may not cause much inconvenience in Cuzco itself, they can cause landslides in the countryside which in turn can lead to delays on the train to Machu Picchu. With Price Alerts you'll be notified of any drop in airfare to Cuzco.

Airlines that Fly to Cuzco Airport

Cuzco Airport may be the second busiest airport in Peru, but it is still relatively small and served by only a handful of airlines. While American Airlines used to operate to Cuzco Airport, now the facility is served exclusively by South American airlines. LATAM Peru offers domestic flights to most major Peruvian cities, as does Avianca (along with flights to La Paz and Bogota). Smaller airlines fly primarily to Lima or La Paz.

What to Expect When Arriving at the Airport

Cuzco Airport is located right in the city centre itself. While that location has limited use and growth of the airport, it does make getting to your hotel extremely easy. The best way of reaching your destination is via taxi. As is common elsewhere in Peru, there is no single taxi company and you will need to negotiate a fare beforehand. Most taxi trips to the city centre should cost 10 to 20 soles. There is also a public bus service, but it is extremely cramped and uncomfortable and not really practical if you have large bags with you. It is also worthwhile asking your hotel if they offer an airport shuttle, as that may be the most convenient, if not the cheapest, option. Uber is also available and may present less of a hassle than negotiating with a taxi.

Airport Facilities

Cuzco Airport lacks many of the amenities one might expect from an important international destination, largely due to the fact that its central location makes it impossible to expand. While plans are afoot to build a larger replacement airport outside of the city, for now Cuzco Airport will have to do. There are a few convenience stores, but cafes and restaurants are sorely lacking. There is also no WiFi, so make sure you bring some reading material to pass the time.

What to See and Do in Cuzco

Cuzco is one of the most visited cities in South America thanks to its ancient Incan heritage, colonial Spanish architecture, and modern Quechua traditions. Plaza de Armas is the city's beautiful main square and perfect for pictures. Nearby, the ruins of Qoricancha, which was an Incan temple destroyed by Spanish Conquistadors, offers a fascinating glimpse into Cuzco's complex history. Of course, no trip to Cuzco would be complete without a visit to spectacular Machu Picchu, which can be reached by hiking the Incan trail or by train. Whenever you visit Cuzco, make sure you have a comfortable place booked. Skyscanner can help with finding a hotel in Cuzco for you to rest in after a day packed with sightseeing.
