Getting to Penang Airport
Penang International Airport (PEN) is one of the busiest airports in Malaysia, offering many domestic and international routes throughout Asia. It is a hub for AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and more.
Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from Canada to Penang. To get there, you'll have to route through a major Asian city like Hong Kong (HKG), Singapore (SIN), or Kuala Lumpur (KUL).
Canadians are issued a 90-day tourist visa upon entering Malaysia - you won't need to apply ahead of time. You will however need to show a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after your expected date of departure, as well as proof of a return ticket.
The Best Time To Visit Penang
Penang is a beautiful island year-round, so you're sure to have a great time no matter what time of year you visit! However, there is still a distinct rainy season. Most tourists choose to fly to Penang from November to January, when the weather is nice and pleasant and there are few rainy days. You can find a great deal if you fly from February to April, since there are fewer tourists at that time. If you're brave enough to fly during the rainy season, the deals get even better! From May to October, flight and hotel prices drop significantly due to the rain. Just remember to pack an umbrella!
