Discover Davao International
Whether you want to climb to the tallest peaks, explore quirky art galleries and parks, or kick back on the river bank to watch the world go by, Davao is an excellent choice. One of the Philippines' largest cities, it is both cleaner and safer than Manila by far. A short drive from the city can take you to some of the country's most beautiful nature reserves, and the city is very close to the Philippines' tallest mountain, Mount Apo. If you want to experience the Philippines, you should definitely check this destination out!

Getting to Davao International Airport
Davao International Airport (DVO) is a small international airport serving the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. It is a hub for Cebu Pacific, PAL Express, and Philippines AirAsia.
Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from Canada to Davao. To get there, you'll have to route through a major Asian airport like the ones found in Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Singapore (SIN), or Manila (MNL).
Canadians can travel to the Philippines for up to 30 days without requiring a visa. However, you'll still need proof of a return flight as well as a passport that is valid for at least 6 months from your date of departure. Remember to check the Government of Canada's website for health and travel advisories before you leave.
The Best Time To Visit Davao
Davao has fairly consistent weather year-round, but there is still a distinct rainy season from May to October. The winter months of December to February are the best time to visit Davao, with cooler weather and much less rain. We recommend avoiding travel during April and May, because the weather can be extremely hot and you're likely to see monsoons or thunderstorms.
What to Do in Davao
Davao is known for its picturesque landscapes, interesting museums, and delicious Philippine cuisine. We recommend spending at least a few days in the city to really get a feel for things! Here are some of Davao's most popular tourist destinations:
- Mount Apo, the Philippines' tallest peak, has an elevation of just under 3000 meters! It is a designated National Park and one of the most beautiful places for hiking and sightseeing in the entire country.
- D'Bone Collector Museum is a quirky, environmentally-focussed museum built by an American living in Davao. It is home to full skeletons of hundreds of species, with many of the species having been killed by accumulation of plastics in the waters off the island. It's a sobering and extremely worthwhile museum to visit!
- Bankerohan Market is an extremely busy shopping area where you can purchase handicrafts, gifts, and Davao's most famous export: the durian fruit! Notoriously pungent, this fruit is unlike anything you've ever tasted before (and surprisingly delicious, despite the smell!). You have to try it while you're here!
