About the TTC
Get to know the TTC subway map, and get around with ease when you fly to Toronto with our TTC trip planner. The TTC is Toronto’s public transit system that connects you throughout the city through a system of subways, buses and streetcar routes.
Many of the routes on the TTC provide an accessible and affordable way to explore the city of Toronto and surrounding area. If you’re at a station and not sure where to go, find the TTC map. All stations have a large colour-coded map of all routes, stations, and links to other transit services.
What are the TTC Hours of Operation?
The TTC subway hours of operation on weekdays and Saturdays are approximately 6 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., and Sunday service approximately 8 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. If you are going to a concert or sporting event be sure to double check the time for the last train from your destination as it may vary depending on its location along the subway line. Many TTC streetcar and bus route operate additional evening services or 24 hours or day with more frequent service during peak periods. Night routes are commonly referred to as Blue Night Network that operates nighttime services.
Blue Night Network service follows the Bloor-Danforth subway route and along Yonge Street after the regular hours of subway services.
How much does taking the TTC cost?
Cash single-fare for adults costs $3.25 and children 12 and under can ride the TTC for free. Senior (65+) and youth (12-19) fare is $2.20.
The TTC operates a “tap-on/tap-off” pass system through PRESTO card through which fares are reduced to $3.10 for adults and $2.20 for seniors/youth. A 2-hour transfer is offered through the PRESTO card system allowing you to transfer and switch directions in your journey throughout a 2-hour period. This begins from your first tap without being charged an additional fare.
A PRESTO card can be used on any of the 11 participating transit agencies in Ontario. This includes: GO Transit, Brampton Transit, Burlington Transit, MiWay, Hamilton Street Railway, Oakville Transit, York Region Transit, Durham Region Transit and on the UP Express in the greater Toronto area.
Monthly passes are available for purchase as well for adults ($151.15) and students/senior ($122.45).
TTC Trip Planner Guide to the Subway Lines
TTC Yonge-University Line
The Yonge-University Line route on the TTC runs north and south along two main arterials from Union Station. It’s represented in yellow on your TTC subway map. From Union Station, the west line travels north near University Avenue and past the Royal Ontario Museum.
It heads through Forest Hill South before following Allen Road up to cross the Ontario 401 Express. Yorkdale station is at the corner of Allen and Ranee Avenue just south of the 401. This stop allows access to one of Canada’s largest malls, the Yorkdale Shopping Centre.
The subway was recently expanded to include stops north of Sheppard West (formerly known as Downsview Station) to spot at York University, the Aviva Centre and in Vaughan.
The east arm of this line runs North along Yonge Street. It passes Yonge-Dundas Square, one of Toronto’s most lively public spaces where events and live music are frequently hosted.
Travelling up through the residential areas of Summerhill, Deer Park, and Hoggs Hollow, the line crosses the 401 and links with the Sheppard route on Sheppard Avenue. From there, it extends further north past the Toronto Public Library and ends at Finch Avenue West. The station at Finch includes links to GO Transit, Brampton Transit, and York Region Transit for additional transportation.
TTC Bloor-Danforth Line
Indicated by a green line on the TTC subway map, this route follows Bloor Street on the west side of the Don Valley Parkway, and Danforth Avenue on the east side of the parkway. The line will take from Etobicoke all the way to Scarborough with stop in between through your TTC trip planner. .
The far eastern leg of this route extends through Bloor West Village past the Old Mill Toronto. Situated inside the old stone mill on the banks of Humber River, the venue hosts weddings and events year-round in addition to accommodating hotel guests.
The westernmost point of this route ends at Kipling Avenue. From here, passengers can link to Toronto’s GO transit system or access the city from the airport if you flew to Toronto.
Scarborough and Sheppard Lines
The Scarborough line is a short train route that is represented in blue on the TTC subway map. It runs from the end of the Danforth line at Eglington Avenue East north to the Scarborough Town Centre (SCT).
The Scarborough Town Centre is a large indoor shopping mall and extended retail park with cinemas located within walking distance. From the shopping centre, passengers can link to GO Transit and Scarborough buses for further services.
The Sheppard line runs from Sheppard and Yonge Street in North York east to the CF Fairview Mall. Fairview is a traditional two-story indoor just west of the 404. Passengers can connect here to York Transit.
How to Get to Downtown Toronto from the Airport on Public Transportation
UP Express
The quickest way to get from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to downtown Toronto is on the UP Express. Union Pearson Express runs from Pearson Airport to Union Station in downtown Toronto in just 25 minutes. It stops at Weston Station (connects to GO Transit Kitchener line), Bloor Station (connects to GO Transit (Kitchener line) and Bloor-Danforth subway line 2 at Bloor St. and Dundas St. West) with Union Station in downtown Toronto being the terminal station.
The first departure from Union is at 4:55 a.m., and from Pearson is at 5:27 a.m. Trains depart every 15 minutes until 12:57 a.m. An adult one-way fare from Pearson to Union is $12.35. Children under 12 years of age ride for free.
TTC Trip Planner from the Airport
From Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), you can take the 900 Express route and then navigate your way around the rest of the city with our TTC trip planner. This route provides all-day accessible express bus service between Kipling Station on Line 2 Bloor-Danforth or the 952. The 52A Lawrence West route provides all-day bus service between Lawrence Station on Line 1 Yonge-University to connect you to the subway to travel to downtown Toronto.
Additional public transport is offered from the airport through MiWay (Mississauga Transit), Brampton Transit and on GoTransit.
How to Get to the VIA Rail on Public Transit in Toronto
All VIA Rail trains travelling from Toronto to other stops across Canada. The trains leave from Union Station which can be accessed along the Yonge-University subway line and is the terminal station on the UP Express from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Popular destinations along the VIA Rail from Toronto include Ottawa, Montreal and Windsor.
Union Station is also the departure point for The Canadian which travels from Toronto to Vancouver by train.
How to Get to the Toronto Coach Terminal on Public Transit in Toronto
The Toronto Coach Terminal is the hub for all transportation through private bus companies. Busses leave from her to cities around Ontario, to Ottawa and Montreal or across the border to New York City and other popular cities.
The Toronto Coach Terminal is located at Bay St. and Dundas Street West and is within walking distance between St. Patrick Station and Dundas Station along the Yonge-University line or at the Bay St. Stop along the 505 Dundas Street Car.
