Flying out of Milan
Though there are three international airports to choose from in Milan, there are currently no airlines flying the Milan to Calgary route nonstop. The busiest of the three airports is Milan-Malpensa Airport (MXP), located about 49 km from Milan. The airport consists of two passenger terminals, with Terminal 2 used exclusively by EasyJet. Airlines such as KLM and Delta Air Lines fly from MXP to Calgary with a stop in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Orio al Serio International Airport (BGY) is the next-busiest airport in the Milan area. Like MXP, BGY is quite far from the city, at about 45 km northeast. Most flight traffic from Orio al Serio Airport is directed to domestic locations or to nearby European countries. You can fly from BGY to Calgary, but since your flight will have at least two layovers, this is not the best option.
Though Milan Linate Airport (LIN) serves the least amount of passengers per year, its close proximity to Milan makes it an attractive option for travellers. The airport sits about 7 km from the city centre or about 15 minutes by car. British Airways offers a flight route from LIN to Calgary with a stop in London, England. Via Lufthansa, the layover is in Frankfurt, Germany and via Delta Air Lines, the layover is in Amsterdam.
