Departing from London Heathrow Airport
London Heathrow Airport has five terminal buildings: Terminal 1, which primarily handles domestic flights; Terminal 2, which mainly serves European flights; and Terminals 3, 4, and 5, which serve long-haul flights as well as shorter flights to destinations throughout Europe. Flights to Rome are generally handled in Terminal 5.

Rome Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport (FCO) is the main air facility serving Rome and the surrounding districts of Dragoncello, Focene, Isola Sacra, and Maccabees. The airport is comprised of four terminal buildings: Terminals 1 and 2, which mainly serve domestic airlines; Terminal 3, which handles both domestic and international flights; and Terminal 5, which serves U.S. airlines. Airlines arriving from London are generally handled in Terminal 3. Leonardo da Vinci Airport's terminal buildings offer a wealth of amenities and services for arriving passengers. In addition to a wide selection of luxury retail shops, restaurants, bars, and cafes, there are plenty of ATMs and information desks dotted throughout the airport.
Leonardo da Vinci Airport is served by several public buses and trains that connect to Rome as well as destinations in Capena, Ceveteri, Fonte Nuova Marino, Monterotondo, Pomzela, and Riano. Other options for getting from the airport to the city centre are taxis (available outside the Arrivals areas of each terminal), hotel shuttles, and car rentals.

Every summer, the city celebrates "ferragosto," a period during which many businesses, restaurants, and shops are closed. This is also the time of year when hotel prices are highest. By planning your trip in spring or fall, you'll save on accommodation while still enjoying great sightseeing weather.
